Once again, a team has jumped into the No. 20 position of the USA Lacrosse Division III Women's Top 20 with an upset over a top-10 team, this time with Messiah defeating Salisbury 10-9 in overtime.
The Sea Gulls scored the first four goals before Katie Bukiewicz scored with 29 seconds remaining in the first quarter to get the Falcons on the board. They would need similar heroics later in the fourth quarter. Miranda Mears scored her third goal with 47 seconds remaining to put Salisbury up 9-7, but Messiah answered with two goals, including a Grace Pettitt score with four seconds left to send the game into overtime.
There, Annalise Keitel scored the winner with one minute left in the extra frame. With the loss, Salisbury drops just one spot to No. 7.
Tufts rebounded from its loss against Middlebury with a decisive 20-9 victory over Amherst. Allie Zorn and Margie Carden each scored four goals and added an assist.
Trinity was the latest victim in Middlebury’s unbeaten run, losing 19-10, but it did secure a win over Colorado College earlier in the week behind Kaeley Zito’s three goals and one assist. The Tigers bounced back nicely from their loss by earning an upset win over TCNJ, 17-13. Cassidy Schnaufer made 11 saves, and four players notched hat tricks.
