A historic season for Slippery Rock continues as The Rock will be the No. 1 seed in the Atlantic Region for the 24-team NCAA Division II Women’s Lacrosse Championship, which begins on Thursday, May 7. The championship will be played on May 23 at RIT in Rochester, N.Y.
Also earning No. 1 seeds were Adelphi (East), Florida Southern (South) and UIndy (Midwest). The top seeds in each region will earn first-round byes. Six teams were selected in each region.
Slippery Rock is unbeaten with a 20-0 record and defeated Kutztown 11-10 earlier today to win its first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference championship in school history.
Adelphi, the runner up in the last two NCAA championships, is looking for its first national title since 2019. Since starting the season 0-4, the Panthers have ripped off 13 consecutive wins, capturing the Northeast 10 championship with a 14-13 victory over Pace on Saturday.
UIndy, the 2022 national champion, has won 16 straight games to improve to 17-1 for the season. The Greyhounds beat Maryville, 17-12, today to claim the Great Lakes Valley Conference championship.
Florida Southern, the 2016 national champion, edged Flagler for the No. 1 seed in the South Region. The Mocs defeated two-time defending national champion Tampa, 11-8, last weekend in the Sunshine State Athletic Conference. Florida Southern is 17-1 with its only loss coming to Flager, which moved to 19-0 for the season with a 17-11 victory over Alabama-Huntsville in the Gulf South Conference tournament finale.
