SECOND-Round Recap

(1) North Carolina vs. Clemson
(Chapel Hill, N.C.)

βœ… Final: North Carolina def. Clemson 17-6

πŸ”₯ Top Performer: Chloe Humphrey, North Carolina β€” You can set your clock to a big-time performance from Chloe Humphrey in May. She had seven goals and four assists as part of North Carolina's runaway train of an offense. She now has 99 goals this season, 10 away from Madison Taylor's single-season record.

πŸ’₯ Key Moment: After Clemson went up 1-0, North Carolina scored 14 straight goals.

⏭️ Next: The Tar Heels play Stanford, which they beat 18-9 on April 10 and 12-8 in the ACC championship game.

(3) Maryland vs. Rutgers
(College Park, Md.)

βœ… Final: Maryland def. Rutgers 11-8

πŸ”₯ Top Performer: Keeley Block, Maryland β€” Block dropped four goals on the Scarlet Knights, and her fourth opened the fourth quarter and gave Maryland a little extra room to breathe.

πŸ’₯ Key Moment: Maryland scored six of its 11 goals in the first quarter, and the 6-1 advantage the Terps took into the second quarter was a cushion large enough that Rutgers couldn't fight all the way back.

⏭️ Next: Maryland will host a quarterfinal game on Thursday against (6) Navy.

(5) Stony Brook vs. Boston College
(Stony Brook, N.Y.)

βœ… Final: Stony Brook def. Boston College 10-9

πŸ”₯ Top Performer: Haydin Eisfeld, Stony Brook β€” Isabella Caporuscio was her usual self with four goals, but the performance of Haydin Eisfeld won Stony Brook the game. She scored two goals β€” including what ended up being the winner with 11:48 to play β€” and then caused a turnover on a free position attempt with less than 15 seconds to play that could have tied the score and sent the game to overtime.

πŸ’₯ Key Moment: The aforementioned defensive play by Eisfeld was outstanding. Avery Hudson lined up for a free position attempt, but Eisfeld bolted off the line at the whistle and made contact with Hudson's stick, jarring the ball loose. Stony Brook goalie Natalia Altebrando found the loose ball, and Stony Brook hung on.

⏭️ Next: It's a hotbed clash between (5) Stony Brook and (4) Johns Hopkins in Baltimore.

(4) Johns Hopkins vs. Army
(Baltimore, Md.)

βœ… Final: Johns Hopkins def. Army 21-13

πŸ”₯ Top Performer: Taylor Hoss, Ava Angello and Paige Willard, Johns Hopkins β€” Yes, we're throwing some honors at all three. Each posted seven points in a big offensive day for the Blue Jays. Hoss had two goals and five assists, Angello had six goals and one asisst and Willard had four goals and three assists.

πŸ’₯ Key Moment: Army trailed by four, 15-11, entering the fourth quarter. Hopkins had always led, but the Black Knights were right there. The Jays scored the first four tallies of the final quarter, one each by Lacey Downey, Angello, Willard and Sienna Chirieleison.

⏭️ Next: (4) Johns Hopkins will host (5) Stony Brook. The Jays beat the Seawolves 13-11 on March 8.

(7) Michigan vs. Stanford
(Ann Arbor, Mich.)

βœ… Final: Stanford def. Michigan 13-12

πŸ”₯ Top Performer: Mallory Hasselbeck, Stanford β€” The transfer from Boston College was key in bringing Stanford back from a 10-7 deficit in the third quarter, assisting Martha Oakey's player-up goal that made it 10-9 and later scoring one of her own to put the Cardinal up 11-10. Hasselbeck finished with three goals and one assist.

πŸ’₯ Key Moment: With 50 seconds left, Jordyn Case scored the winner on a free position attempt.

⏭️ Next: Stanford will play in its first-ever NCAA quarterfinal on Thursday against (2) North Carolina.

(6) Navy vs. Syracuse
(Annapolis, Md.)

βœ… Final: Navy def. Syracuse 11-10 (OT)

πŸ”₯ Top Performer: Alyssa Chung, Navy β€” Chung had four goals with one assist and scored the overtime winner after winning the first draw of the overtime period.

πŸ’₯ Key Moment: Down 9-3 at halftime, Navy needed to mount a massive comeback to win. Naturally, the OT winner by Chung is the key moment β€” but it's important to acknowledge what led up to that. Syracuse eventually went up 10-4 with 3:34 left in the third quarter, the Mids ripped off the final six goals of regulation and then the hammer in OT.

⏭️ Next: It's the Cindy Timchal Bowl between (6) Navy and (3) Maryland in College Park.

(1) Northwestern vs. James Madison
(Evanston, Ill.)

βœ… Final: Northwestern def. James Madison 17-5

πŸ”₯ Top Performer: Madison Taylor, Northwestern β€” The Tewaaraton Award finalist scored eight goals on 13 shots, setting the tone for the Wildcats as they move on to the quarterfinals.

πŸ’₯ Key Moment: James Madison was hanging around, down 6-3 early in the second quarter β€” then Northwestern scored the next seven goals to kickstart a running clock. The running clock went on and off in spurts from there, but the Wildcats were in complete control.

⏭️ Next: Northwestern will play Colorado. The Wildcats lost to Colorado 10-9 in the second game of the season.

(8) Colorado vs. Denver
(Boulder, Colo.)

βœ… Final: Colorado def. Denver 11-9

πŸ”₯ Top Performer: Rachel Kennedy, Colorado β€” The Denver area native scored three goals, including the tying and go-ahead goal in the second quarter and the eventual game-winner in the fourth

πŸ’₯ Key Moment: The Buffaloes trailed 4-1 in the first quarter and 5-3 in the second but finished the first half on a four-goal run and reached 10 goals on Kennedy's tally early in the fourth quarter β€” a threshold their suffocating defense has yet to allow an opponent to cross this season.

⏭️ Next: Colorado will make its first-ever NCAA quarterfinal appearance at top-seeded Northwestern , revisiting the site of the upset win that launched this magical season back on Feb. 9.
