Top Teams Pulling Away in Division III Women's Top 20
Last week featured a multitude of matchups between top-10 teams, and while all have made cases to be considered some of the best in the nation this spring, the top of the pack pulled away slightly.
Middlebury continued its unbeaten run with three victories, including key wins over a surging Gettysburg College and tough TCNJ team. Goalie Gina Driscoll made 25 saves in three wins and never allowed more than seven goals while extending her winning streak to 21 games. Maggie Coughlin tallied 15 points over the three wins, setting a personal-best with five points against Gettysburg, only to top that two days later by putting up six points against TCNJ.
Franklin & Marshall matched Middlebury’s impressive week with two-goal wins over William Smith and Salisbury. Lauren Pittman had 11 goals, four assists and 10 draw controls over the course of her three games, including an impressive nine-point outing (five goals, four assists) against Swarthmore.
Rounding out the undefeated top three is Tufts, which collected a pair of victories over Washington and Lee and Christopher Newport. Allie Zorn contributed five goals and three assists against the Generals. Goalie Pascale de Buren had a strong week, allowing no more than six goals in either game, making a total of 18 saves while also causing three turnovers against Christopher Newport.
Elsewhere, Amherst earned its way back into the Top 20 with three victories, one of which came over Haverford. Mia Raven scored four goals in that game and eight in the week.
Also, Rowan continued its unbeaten streak to start the season and comes in at No. 20. In the team’s victory over Christopher Newport, its second win of the week, Molly Green was all over the field with three goals, one assist, three ground balls, five caused turnovers and six draw controls.
