USC has named Sam Apuzzo its next head coach, the school announced Wednesday.

She replaces Lindsey Munday, who parted ways with the Women of Troy in May. Munday had been the only coach in USC women’s lacrosse history.

Apuzzo comes to USC after six years as an assistant coach (and another as a graduate assistant) at Boston College under head coach Acacia Walker-Weinstein. As an assistant coach, Apuzzo helped the Eagles reach four NCAA championship games in her six seasons, including winning the title in 2021 and 2024. A BC alum, Apuzzo won a Tewaaraton Award in 2018 and helped the Eagles to three consecutive NCAA championship game appearances before graduating in 2019.

A captain of the 2026 U.S. Women’s National Team set to compete in the World Lacrosse Women’s Championship in Tokyo later this summer, Apuzzo has already won two world championships — in 2022 with the U.S. women's field team and in 2025 at The World Games in China with the U.S. women's sixes team.

At the college level, Apuzzo set career marks at Boston College in career points (390), goals (278), and draw controls (444), and tied with teammate Kenzie Kent for the fewest games needed to reach 100 career points (25). She has played at the professional level since 2019, including winning the Athletes Unlimited overall point leaderboard in 2024, and currently plays with the Maryland Charm in the Women's Lacrosse League.

USC went 8-9 in 2026 under Munday and finished eighth in the Big Ten at 1-7.

"I am beyond proud of Sam for taking this next step in her journey,” Walker-Weinstein said in the USC announcement. “Moving across the country to build her own legacy at USC is an incredible milestone and we are so proud of her.”
