Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:
Things felt a little normal this weekend, which is to say nothing was normal, and that’s the way we love February lacrosse.
1. In men’s lacrosse, there were two upsets involving top 5 teams, as Army overcame a slow start, falling behind 6-1, before rallying to beat No. 2 Syracuse 18-11 on Sunday behind four goals and three assists from Brendan Nichtern.

On Saturday, Rutgers had the feel-good story of the weekend as transfers Colin Kirst and Connor Kirst led their late father’s alma mater to an 11-9 upset over No. 4 Penn State.

In other big games, No. 3 Virginia improved to 3-0 with a win over Loyola, Ohio State spoiled the debut of new Johns Hopkins coach Peter Milliman and Jake Carraway went off for eight goals as Georgetown blitzed Villanova 16-1.
2. In women’s lacrosse, half of the top 10 teams suffered losses this weekend, including a pair of upsets in the Big Ten on Sunday with Penn State outlasting No. 8 Maryland and Ohio State shocking No. 9 Michigan, a far cry from a week ago when the Buckeyes trailed Northwestern 18-0 in the second half.

A pair of traditional ACC powers, Virginia and Duke, made early statements. The Cavaliers jumped all over No. 10 Richmond early, avenging a loss to the Spiders from a year ago, with a 15-9 win. The Blue Devils’ defense showed up in a 12-8 win over Virginia Tech.
Hofstra’s Alyssa Parrella became the all-time leading goal scorer in Colonial Athletic Association history with a seven-goal effort in a 17-11 win over Connecticut. Parrella now has 226 career goals, breaking the mark of 221 set by Loyola’s Stacey Morlang (1999-2002).

ESPN announced its complete women’s lacrosse schedule on Friday, featuring more than 180 games across all of its networks. The ACC Network will have a triple-header this Friday, highlighted by Boston College-USC and Duke-North Carolina.
USC’s trip East this week includes games at Stony Brook and Boston College. JMU transfer Maddie McDaniel will be an important factor in the Trojans hopes for success in 2021.
Former NFL running back Dalton Crossan hasn’t played lacrosse since high school, but Chaos head coach Andy Towers didn’t hesitate on taking a shot on the “next-level” athlete.
Union women’s lacrosse coach Abi Jackson is all-in on racial equality.
