Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:
1. The FIL World Indoor Lacrosse Championship is less than a year away, and we now know the teams that will be joining the U.S. indoor team in Langley, B.C. next September. A total of 20 teams have committed to the WILC — the highest number of participants since the event started in 2003.
Joining the U.S., Canada and Iroquois is Australia, Austria, Costa Rica, the Czech Republic, England, Finland, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Israel, the Netherlands, Puerto Rico, Serbia, Scotland, Slovakia, Sweden and Switzerland.
2. Hailey Wagner is looking to cap her Marist career at the top of the MAAC standings. Wagner, the nation's leader in draw controls with 8.82 in 2018, is looking to revenge an early round loss in the MAAC tournament.
“I am more in this mindset this season of leaving a solid foundation for the team once I graduate,” Wagner said. “I want to make sure it’s not a freefall on the draw. I want to make sure Marist is known for its draw unit, not just one draw girl.”
3. Lacrosse fans in Canada and beyond are remembering former box star Phil Sanderson, who died early Wednesday morning. Sanderson was an original member of the Dufferin Northmen Senior B team, which won three Senior B championships and raised the profile of lacrosse in Orangeville, Ontario.
