4 Perfect Teams in Final Public High School Girls' National Top 25
Darien (Conn.) rules again.
The Blue Wave completed an unbeaten season for the second time in four years with a 13-4 win over New Canaan (Conn.) to take the CIAC Class LL crown. It’s their 22nd state title and puts them atop the final USA Lacrosse Public High School Girls’ National Top 25, presented by CWENCH Hydration.
State championship runs solidified some teams’ spots and gave several other teams a late bump in the final rankings. Three teams debuted in the final rankings as Victor (N.Y.) won a state championship and Jamesville-DeWitt (N.Y.) and Penn Yan (N.Y.) reached title games.
Sayville (N.Y.) also finished in impressive fashion with an unbeaten championship season of their own. The No. 2 Golden Flashes dominated in a 15-7 win over newly ranked Jamesville-DeWitt to finish a 21-0 season with the New York State Class C title. It is the Golden Flashes’ second undefeated championship in three years.
No. 3 Manchester Valley (Md.) and No. 10 West Forsyth (Ga.) were the only other nationally ranked teams to go unbeaten this season.
Other notable developments:
— West Chester Henderson (Pa.) was asked again to prove it was better than Conestoga (Pa.), and for the third time this season, the Warriors delivered in a top-10 showdown. Henderson topped Conestoga 11-6 behind four goals from Mary Cate Killoran to win the program’s first Pennsylvania AAA state title. Conestoga’s only three losses this season came against the Warriors.
— No. 5 Huntington (N.Y.) was a big riser. It got four goals and an assist from Olivia Puccio, and Jolie Weinschreider netted a hat trick to defeat Penfield (N.Y.) 9-6 for the first NYS Class A state championship in program history. That came after an 8-6 win over a ranked Suffern (N.Y.) team.
— So was newcomer Victor. In one of the biggest head-to-head matchups of the week, Victor made it five consecutive NYS Class B championships with a convincing 13-5 win over previously ranked No. 4 Garden City (N.Y.) behind four second-half goals from McKenna Anderson. Garden City beat a ranked team, Nyack (N.Y.), in the semifinals.
— Another key showdown went to Cold Spring Harbor (N.Y.). The Seahawks rallied from a two-goal deficit at halftime with Kaitlin Milet scoring four of her five goals in the third quarter as they beat Penn Yann 11-8 to win the NYS Class D title for a third straight season.
— Ridgewood (N.J.) returned to the top of the New Jersey Group 4 state. The Maroons had no issues in a 12-4 win over Cherokee (N.J.) to earn their ninth state title but first since 2023.
— Moorestown (N.J.) also returned to the top of its group. The South Jersey power won its 26th state title but first since 2021 with a 7-5 win over North Jersey rival Summit (N.J.). Kaitlyn McNulty caused four turnovers and Meghan Hock and Ella Brittain scored two goals apiece.
— In the regional rankings, Victor, Jamesville-DeWitt and Penn Yan all debut in the Northeast Region that is led by Darien. Manchester Valley leads the Mid-Atlantic Region. West Forsyth defeated Milton (Ga.) in the regular season and kept the top spot in the South Region. Olentangy Liberty (Ohio) used its late success to take the No. 1 ranking in the Midwest Region. Coronado (Calif.) did the same to pace the West Region.
