Brynn Perkins leaves Foothill-Santa Ana (Calif.) as one of the state’s most dominant midfielders after leading the Knights to their fifth CIF-Southern Section Division I title.

The Florida State-bound Perkins powered Foothill with five goals in the 12-7 championship victory over a previously unbeaten Mira Costa (Calif.). The senior captain led the team across the board with 95 goals, 44 assists, 166 shots on goal and 139 points while also contributing defensively with 17 caused turnovers, the second most among the Knights. She averaged a staggering 4.3 goals per game.

For the second straight season, Perkins was named the All-Orange County Girls Offensive Player of the Year and earned her spot on the all-county first team. Over her four-year varsity career, Perkins helped guide Foothill (20-2) to four consecutive CIF title match appearances.

WEST TOP 10
(FINAL)

1. Coronado (Calif.), 19-0

Coronado was crowned the CIF-San Diego Section champions after a 16-4 rout over at the No. 2 seed Cathedral Catholic (Calif.). The Islanders were up a staggering 11-0 after just the first quarter and the Dons could not catch up, surrendering five more goals before the final buzzer.

2. Sacred Heart Prep (Calif.), 18-2

For the first time since 2021, Sacred Heart Prep secured its third overall CCS championship after knocking off top seed St. Ignatius (Calif.), 10-8. Freshman Mollie Pepper netted the game-high five goals. The Gators avenged after losing to the Wildcats twice in the regular season.

3. Valor Christian (Colo.), 17-1

Valor Christian concluded its historic season with the program’s first CHSAA Class 5A state championship. The Eagles were on a 12-game winning streak heading into the title game and, at the No. 1 seed, totaled 57 goals and only had 19 against throughout the entire tournament. Three different Eagles recorded hat tricks in the championship: Leele Bigelow (Stanford), Morgan Gunnersen and Olivia Laselle. Valor Christian was the tournament runner-up in 2021 and 2022.

4. St. Ignatius (Calif.), 17-5

The Wildcats recorded a 17-5 overall ledger and were the CCS runner-ups after falling to No. 2 Sacred Heart Prep (Calif.) in a narrow 10-8 loss. St. Ignatius’ Sadie Ghali was named the unanimous CCS Defender of the Year and Millie Bartlett (Penn) tabbed CCS Co-Midfielder of the Year.

5. Foothill-Santa Ana (Calif.), 20-2

Foothill-Santa Ana clinched the program’s fifth CIF-SS Division I title after overpowering rival Mira Costa (Calif.), 12-7, in the championship. Senior Brynn Perkins (Florida State) led the attack with five goals and one assist in the final.

6. Redwood (Calif.), 19-4

Redwood earned the CIF-NCS state championship with a gritty 10-9 victory over San Ramon Valley (Calif.) after losing to the Wolves earlier in the regular season and being named the 2024 runner-up behind SRV.

7. San Ramon Valley (Calif.), 18-4

In the CIF-NCS championship, San Ramon Valley fell in a heartbreaker loss to No. 2 seed Redwood (Calif.). After their third consecutive title game, eight student-athletes were named to the EBAL all-conference first and second teams, including the Offensive Player of the Year Ava Horrocks.

8. Evergreen (Colo.), 16-2

Evergreen clinched its second consecutive CHSAA Class 4A state championship with a 19-16 victory over Green Mountain (Colo.). In the last four years, the Cougars have not dropped a single WCLA league game and have won four straight conference titles while racking up a 55-18 record and two state championships.

9. Mira Costa (Calif.), 18-1

Mira Costa’s undefeated reign ended in the CIF-SS Division 1 championship game after a 12-7 loss to Foothill-Santa Ana (Calif.). The back-to-back Bay League conference champions finished 18-1 overall and will graduate seven seniors.

10. Seattle Prep (Wash.), 13-2-1

Seattle Prep clinched its first state title in 22 years and the second overall in program history after battling Mount Si (Wash.) to an 8-7 victory. Last season, the roles were reversed with the Wildcats taking home the crown, but the Panthers staved them off this year to claim the program’s first championship since 2003.
