The nation's No. 1-ranked public school defeated the No. 1-ranked private school in thrilling fashion Wednesday night.

Quin Chandler took a backdoor pass from Anna Von Kennel and scored the game-winning goal in double overtime to give Darien (Conn.) a 10-9 victory over St. Anthony’s (N.Y.), ending the Friars’ 50-game winning streak.

The Blue Wave thus have fortified their spot atop this week’s USA Lacrosse Public High School Girls’ National Top 25, presented by CWENCH Hydration. Look for a new No. 1 in the overall rankings next Tuesday.

Darien also knocked off Chatham (N.J.) team earlier this week. A torrid three-game stretch culminates with Garden City (N.Y.) this week.

Also of note:

  • Manhasset (N.Y.) continued its strong start with a win over previously unbeaten Cold Spring Harbor (N.Y.). It faces New Canaan (Conn.) in a top-10 matchup of unbeatens Thursday.
  • Some great teams are lurking just outside the top 10. Springfield-Delco (Pa.) is undefeated through six games and West Forsyth (Ga.) has won its first 12 games.
  • Maryland madness: Marriotts Ridge (Md.) defeated Severna Park (Md.), which beat Glenelg High (Md.), which defeated Broadneck (Md.), which beat Marriotts Ridge.  Since that loss, Marriotts Ridge has rattled off five straight wins.
  • A big New Jersey battle will feature two top-25 teams when Chatham (N.J.) faces Summit (N.J.) this week. Summit has not lost and Chatham's only defeat came against Darien.
  • Three teams debut in regional rankings. Chapel Hill (N.C.) brings a 9-1 record into the No. 9 spot in the South, New Albany (Ohio) jumps into the Midwest at No. 5, and Wilsonville (Ore.) is off to a perfect start in the West.

By focusing exclusively on public school programs, these USA Lacrosse National Top 25 and Regional Top 10 lists (also found here in our rankings hub) highlight the best teams that have built powerhouse rosters through local development and strong grassroots efforts.

Compiled by USA Lacrosse writers with input from coaches around the country, rankings and records usually reflect results as of previous Tuesday.
