Ellie Bornhoeft Named USA Lacrosse High School Girls' Midwest Player of the Year
Ellie Bornhoeft was on the field when the Trevians rallied to win the 2022 state title. As a senior, Bornhoeft wasn’t just on the field for another Land of Lincoln championship — she scored the game-winning goal in overtime to top rival Loyola Academy (Ill.).
Bornhoeft led New Trier in most statistical categories, including goals (58), points (84), ground balls (39), caused turnovers (20) and draw controls (123). The Cornell commit led the way in big games, including a hat trick in the state championship, 16 goals in the tournament and two goals, three assists and five draw controls against Paul VI (Va.).
Bornhoeft finished her career as New Trier’s all-time leader in draw controls with 366, passing Kennedy Meier, who currently plays at Michigan, and Kelsey Murray, who played for Stanford.
Per coach Peter Collins, Bornhoeft’s abilities go well beyond the numbers. “[She] has the ability to take over any game and is a standout player for our team on both ends of the field," Collins said. “Her presence lifted our team, her grit pushed us forward, and her leadership helped hold us together.”
