Stella Pence, Potomac (Va.)
The 2025 season will go down in history for Pence and Potomac. The senior attacker’s fourth goal of the game gave the Panthers a 9-8 win over St. Anne’s-Belfield (Va.) in overtime for the Division 1 championship of the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association (VISAA). It’s their first title at the D1 level after winning Division 2 back in 2008. Goalie Caitlin Jarvis helped with two of her eight saves in overtime and Catherine LeTendre led the defensive effort and had four ground balls, four draw controls and one caused turnover. The Panthers defeated St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes (Va.), 16-7, in the semifinals, their first win over the Saints since 1995.
Pence will continue her career at Duke after graduating from Potomac as the program’s all-time points leader with 386 on 224 goals and 162 assists. She missed two weeks due to injury, but in 18 games this year scored 50 goals, had 14 assists, 13 ground balls and 12 caused turnovers.
