Action is picking up around the country for teams ranked in the USA Lacrosse High School Girls' National Top 25, presented by CWENCH Hydration. It will get even more interesting with the Northeast and Midwest Regions opening soon.
The Top 25 does not have any new teams this week, but only because some of the best matchups were between teams already ranked.
Penn Charter (Pa.) won a marquee matchup hosted by USA Lacrosse. The Quakers held St. Paul's (Md.) in check in their season opener but then fell to Canada's Hill Academy (Ont.) in a narrow loss. Another Philadelphia-area team, Episcopal Academy (Pa.), remained unbeaten with a win over newly ranked Academy of Notre Dame (Pa.).
St. Mary's (Md.) climbed up a spot with an exciting overtime win over Stone Ridge (Md.). The Saints have looked strong in the early going, and they face their stiffest test of the young season when they take on No. 3 Archbishop Spalding (Md.) this week.
American Heritage-Delray (Fla.) looks to remain perfect when it plays Colorado powerhouse Valor Christian in a matchup crossing regions with national implications. Milton (Ga.) was in top form in a lopsided win over Upper Arlington (Ohio) in another meeting between regional leaders. McDonogh (Md.) did the same, reinforcing its might with a big win over IMG Academy (Fla.) to remain undefeated through three games.
There's been just a small taste of these ranked matchups. With every state that begins its season, there comes more potential for challenging setups that will affect the Top 25.
Compiled by USA Lacrosse writers with input from coaches around the country, rankings and records reflect results as of previous Sunday.
