Kate Theofield, Smithtown West (N.Y.)
Smithtown West was on the precipice of making history. But the Bulls had been there before, too. Twice previously, they had reached the Suffolk Class B final and lost in back-to-back years. On Saturday, Kate Theofield made sure that history wasn’t repeated and new history was made.
The Rutgers-bound senior scored three of her five goals inside the opening six minutes, setting the tone in a 12-9 win over Harborfields (N.Y.), as Smithtown West captured the first county title in program history.
“Kate had a standout game, putting up three quick goals against Harborfields in the first quarter of the county finals,” Smithtown West coach Vincenza Patrone said. “Despite being faceguarded, she was still able to tally five goals and help keep momentum on offense and the draw circle. Her energy and enthusiasm is evident when she plays. It is fun to watch her and her teammates rise to big occasions.”
