Loyola attackman Pat Spencer, the two-time Tewaaraton Award finalist and favorite to win college lacrosse’s top individual honor this spring, was selected No. 1 overall in the Premier Lacrosse League’s inaugural draft Monday at NBC Sports studios in Stamford, Conn.

Spencer was the first of 24 picks revealed in an NBC Sports studio show, co-hosted by NBC Sports’ Paul Burmeister and lacrosse analyst Ryan Boyle, that aired Tuesday after the network’s coverage of the NHL playoffs. All six PLL head coaches were on hand to name their selections.

Archers LC tabbed Spencer first overall, followed by Virginia midfielder Ryan Conrad (Atlas LC), Towson midfielder Zach Goodrich (Chrome LC), Towson faceoff specialist Alex Woodall (Whipsnakes LC), Cornell attackman Clarke Petterson (Redwoods LC) and Army defenseman Johnny Surdick (Chaos LC).

Complete results of the draft appear below.

Twenty-two of the 24 players selected in the PLL draft also were selected in the Major League Lacrosse draft March 9 in Charlotte, N.C. They cannot declare for either league until after their college seasons have ended. Otherwise, they would forfeit their remaining NCAA eligibility.

How they declare — especially Spencer, who also was drafted No. 7 overall by his hometown Chesapeake Bayhawks of MLL and who has entertained thoughts of playing college basketball for a year — will be one of the most followed story lines after Memorial Day.
