USA Lacrosse CEO Marc Riccio Signs Contract Through LA Olympics
SPARKS, Md. – The Board of Directors at USA Lacrosse has announced that it has signed CEO Marc Riccio to a contract that runs until 2029, which includes the sport’s return to the biggest stage with the LA28 Olympics. Riccio, a former Hofstra lacrosse player and longtime National Football League executive, has served as the CEO of USA Lacrosse since 2021.
“Marc has demonstrated exceptional leadership in guiding USA Lacrosse over the past several years with vision, steadiness and an unwavering commitment to our mission,” said Sarah Bullard McDaniel, chair of the USA Lacrosse Board of Directors. “Under his leadership, the organization has not only strengthened its foundation but has also built powerful partnerships across the sport that are uniting stakeholders around shared goals for growth.”
“I truly am humbled and honored,” said Riccio. “I’m having fun and I really do love all of the challenges this opportunity presents. I enjoy working with the various groups within the sport. Our staff leadership team is in a great place and the board working relationship is fantastic and high performing. I’m incredibly bullish on our future and grateful for those that came before us to put us in this position.”
Under Riccio’s leadership, USA Lacrosse has focused on three core principles – Fuel the Growth, Enrich the Experience and Field the Best National Teams – while generating record revenue to help support investment in the game.
Riccio started his tenure at USA Lacrosse in August 2021 with the sport coming off two consecutive interrupted seasons due to the COVID pandemic. Participation levels have rebounded following that period and USA Lacrosse had more than 66,000 youth members in the 7-9 age segment in 2024, the largest total in the organization’s history for that key age segment.
Coaches and officials play a critical role in the experience for all players and USA Lacrosse leads the way in educational opportunities for these important individuals. USA Lacrosse currently has over 37,000 member coaches and over 15,000 member officials that are supporting the experience for players.
USA Lacrosse has also seen a robust expansion of its national team program, now sponsoring 14 teams from senior-level to youth national teams. On the field, for the first time in more than two decades, the U.S. is ranked either No. 1 or No. 2 in every discipline of the sport and has won five World Lacrosse championships (2022 senior women, 2022 U21 men, 2023 senior men, 2024 U20 women, 2024 women’s box) and one World Games title (2025 women’s sixes) during his tenure.
The national team success comes at a pivotal point. USA Lacrosse was recognized by the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) as part of its Affiliate Organizations Council in 2023 and is on the pathway to becoming an official National Governing Body of the USPOC as the Olympics draw nearer.
“At a time when lacrosse is poised to take its biggest stage in the 2028 Olympics, Marc’s ability to anchor our work in expanding participation, advancing our role as the sport’s national governing body, and growing the commercial strength of USA Lacrosse in support of enhancing our mission and impact ensures that we are well-positioned for this historic moment and beyond,” McDaniel said. “The Board is confident that his leadership will continue to propel both the game and the organization forward.”
Riccio spent 17 years leading business operation and development for the NFL’s New York Jets before spending seven years ahead of his USA Lacrosse appointment working in roles focused on strategy, growth and organizational change for major sports brands and events.
Riccio grew up in Canandaigua, N.Y., and was introduced to the sport when he was 12 years old by a neighbor. He went on to become the first high school All-American at Canandaigua Academy, where he played both football and lacrosse. He was later inducted into the Canandaigua Academy Sports Hall of Fame and the Upstate Lacrosse Hall of Fame. At Hofstra, Riccio played lacrosse for former USA men’s national team head coach John Danowski.
Riccio is a member of the New York State Bar, has a Juris Doctor degree from St. John’s University School of Law, and an M.B.A. in Marketing and a B.A. in Communications from Hofstra University.
