The host United States has won a record 36 world championships dating back to 1967. The U.S. is the reigning world champion in five of the six championships currently sponsored by World Lacrosse (women’s box, men’s and women’s senior field and men’s and women’s U20 field) and won the silver medal at the most recent men’s box championship in 2024. In sixes, the U.S. finished as the runner-up to Canada in men’s and women’s lacrosse at The World Games in 2022.

In addition to its two gold medals at The World Games 2022, Canada has won 10 World Lacrosse championships since 1978, the second-most of any nation. Canada has won either gold or silver in every World Lacrosse championship since 2011.

The Haudenosaunee men’s team has medaled all six times at the world box championships (five silver, one bronze) and the bronze medal at the last three field championships. The Haudenosaunee women earned their first bronze medal at the inaugural box championship last fall and the field team just won the bronze at the 2025 Pan-American Women’s Lacrosse Championship.

Puerto Rico’s women’s U20 field team placed fifth at the 2024 world championship, its highest finish ever. Puerto Rico is also ranked in the Top 10 worldwide in men’s U20 (8th), men’s field (10th) and just outside the Top 10 in women’s senior field lacrosse (11th). Puerto Rico’s women’s field team played against the Haudenosaunee in the bronze medal game at the 2025 Pan-American Women’s Lacrosse Championship and competed in sixes at the USA Lacrosse Experience last fall, with the men finishing second with a 2-1 record.

In addition to the games, The Atlas Cup will have fan zones, exclusive merchandise, family-fun activities, food trucks and entertainment throughout the weekend, along with unprecedented up-close access to the best players in the sport.
