The conference realignment continues.
ESPN’s Pete Thamel reports that Mount St. Mary’s is set to leave the NEC and join the MAAC in July in all sports for the 2022-23 season.
“The move has been approved by the MAAC presidents and should be formalized next week, sources said,” Thamel wrote. ”The NEC has been notified of the move.”
USA Lacrosse Magazine contributor Jeremy Fallis tweeted about what the move could mean for men’s lacrosse.
MAAC to gain another. For MLAX the MAAC will have 8 teams after Monmouth leaves, would be 7 if/when Bona joins the A-10. NEC would have just 5 men's teams, but down to 4 next year if/when Hobart joins A-10. AQ would be in peril. https://t.co/V1WHGvR4ER

The Mount’s men’s team is 5-9 this season with its regular-season finale on April 30 against Hobart. Having competed in the MAAC from 1996-2010, there’s familiarity with the conference. The Mountaineers were NEC champions in 2011, their first season in the conference.
The women’s team is 11-4 this season with a 5-1 conference record, second in the NEC behind Bryant. The Mountaineers have had a winning record in the NEC every season since 2017 and won the conference championship in 2021.
