There’s a different No. 1 and 2 and three new teams entered the most recent Nike/USA Lacrosse High School Boys’ National Top 25.

St. John’s College High (Md.) takes over the top spot after knocking off previous No. 1 St. Anthony’s (N.Y.) at home in the GEICO High School Lacrosse Showcase. St. John’s has been dominant all season in its 14-0 start and ascended to the top spot with one week left in its regular season. The GEICO showcase also opened some debate behind St. John’s.

Unbeaten Brunswick School (Conn.) jumped over St. Anthony’s and over 11-0 Mt. Sinai, which needed a rally in the same showcase to overtake Garden City (N.Y.). It was a huge week for Connecticut schools with both New Canaan and Darien also climbing the rankings with solid wins while shocking losses moved down a few Mid-Atlantic teams. Staples (Conn.) moved up four spots on its perfect start as did Baldwinsville (N.Y.) to jump into the Top 25 for the first time.

St. Mary’s (Md.) kept pace with St. John’s in the Mid-Atlantic and moved into the top 5 with its 13-0 start. Severn (Md.) positioned itself in the Top 25 for the first time this year with a win over Boys’ Latin, which didn’t drop far as it turned around and stopped Archbishop Spalding (Md.). Calvert Hall (Md.) also recovered from a mystifying loss to John Carroll (Md.) to edge McDonogh. Paul VI (Va.), which has been consistent with only an upset loss to DeMatha (Md.), found a spot in the national Top 25.

The South Region is almost entirely in playoff mode, and the top seven all kept their same spots with gaudy records, but will face challenges this week. Plant (Fla.), with its 16 wins, moved into the region’s Top 10 for the first time.

Culver (Ind.) remains the toast of the Midwest Region with Loyola (Ill.) also challenging itself out of region. St. Ignatius (Ohio), Upper Arlington (Ohio) and Brother Rice (Mich.) all are or were traveling East for competitive meetings.

It’s much the same in the West Region where Mater Dei (Calif.) lost twice on an East Coast swing, but holds the top spot over Corona del Mar (Calif.), Corner Canyon (Utah) and Regis Jesuit (Colo.), the top contenders out of each of their respective states.
