The Women’s Professional Lacrosse League-leading Fight jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the first quarter and never let up in a 16-9 win over the Command at Homewood Field in Baltimore on Sunday.

With the win, the Fight remain in first place, unbeaten at 3-0. Seven different Fight players scored goals, led by five apiece for Kylie Ohlmiller and Taylor Cummings. Cummings added six draw controls and three caused turnovers.

Katrina Dowd led the Fight with three assists. Kierra Sweeney had three goals and Kenzie Kent had two goals and an assist for the Command, who fell to 1-2.

EIGHT IS ENOUGH

With five goals Sunday, Ohlmiller improved her WPLL-leading goal total to eight. The former Stony Brook and current Team USA standout added two assists.

Ohlmiller scored her five goals on just six shots — the prettiest of which was a behind-the-back beauty that landed Ohlmiller on “SportsCenter.” Again.

Ohlmiller was named the WPLL Player of the Game.  She was a unanimous 2018 WPLL All-Star.

TEWAARATON WATCH

After winning NCAA championship MVP and Tewaaraton Award honors to close out her decorated career at Maryland, Fight goalie Megan Taylor made her professional debut Sunday. She picked up in the pros where she left off in college.

Taylor started in goal and saved 10 shots before yielding to Kelsey Gregerson after the third quarter with a 12-5 lead.

ARSENAULT’S ARSENAL

Dempsey Arsenault earned her first WPLL Player of the Game honor when she scored four goals, had one assist, scooped eight ground balls, corralled five draw controls and caused five turnovers to lead the Brave to a 13-9 win over the Fire on Sunday.

The Brave improved to 1-1. The Fire dropped to 0-2.

FAST ACTION

Arsenault’s first goal came just seven seconds into the game and Dana Dobbie scored 24 seconds later, as the Brave never trailed. Amanda Johansen won the draw control to start both plays and finished with a game-high seven draw controls for the Brave. Dobbie tied Arsenault’s production with four goals and an assist.

NIELSEN RATINGS

Hannah Nielsen, who won a pair of Tewaaraton Awards at Northwestern, made her season debut for the Fire. Nielsen, the head coach at Michigan, showed no rust with all three of her assists in the first quarter. She added three goals over the next three quarters to tie Molly Hendrick for team-high honors.
