With 36 goals and 10 assists through South Florida’s 9-2 start, Sofia Chepenik is the Bulls’ team leader during its inaugural season as an NCAA program.
The junior attacker from Jacksonville is a two-time USA Lacrosse High School All-American and is carving an All-American-type path in the college ranks now, too.
You might also know Chepenik from social media, where she’s amassed over 200,000 followers across TikTok and Instagram.
South Florida and Chepenik use Gait Lacrosse products for an edge on the field. Before a March 15 game against Temple, Chepenik dug into her bag to show the crew at USA Lacrosse Magazine her favorite gear.

As a power player, Chepenik loves the Whip 2. It’s her preferred game stick, which Chepenik calls her baby.
“I cannot say enough great things about [the Whip 2],” Chepenik said.
As a complete stick setup with flex mesh, you’ll be ripping corners in no time.
“Gait has changed the game with its draw head, and if you don’t have one, it’s pretty hard to compete at the draw now,” Chepenik said.
The Gait Draw-M is the first draw stick on the market that is truly playable, allowing players to win draws and stay on the field without switching sticks.
It’s the draw specialist’s secret weapon.
The white ones are USF’s gameday goggles. But Chepenik rocks white or black depending on the practice.
The Glory 2 provides a wider field of vision than other goggle manufacturers offer while also meeting the latest safety standards. Lightweight and comfortable, the Glory 2 goggles won’t weight you down, either.
Chepenik’s go-to Gait trucker hats are out of stock (at least for now), which should tell you all you need to know about their popularity. There are others available on Gait’s website, though, including a script snapback trucker.
As a Division I athlete, Chepenik gets custom South Florida gear not available to the public. But the base gear is certainly available, just like this Gait crewneck sweatshirt with heavy ribbed knit waistband and cuffs.
