There has been a major coaching shakeup in the national high school boys' lacrosse landscape.

Andy Hilgartner, a four-time MIAA champion (2016, 2022, 2023, 2024) at McDonogh (Md.), is leaving the program to become the next head coach of Georgetown Prep (Md.), which parted ways with longtime coach Scott Urick last month.

Ty Xanders of Prep Network was first to report the news.

"It's been an amazing privilege and honor to coach at McDonogh for 19 years," Hilgartner told Justin Feil of USA Lacrosse Magazine. "My three sons played and graduated there. That school and program will always be part of my family."

McDonogh went 12-6 in 2025 and finished ninth in the USA Lacrosse High School Boys' National Top 25. Georgetown Prep did not finish the season in the Top 25 but was "also considered" in the final ranking.

"I'm excited for this new chapter at Georgetown Prep and can't wait to get started," Hilgartner told Feil. "It's an amazing school with an incredible lacrosse tradition built by the many alums and coaches like Kevin Giblin, Charlie Horning, and Scott Urick. I am beyond grateful for this new opportunity."
