Future NCAA Stars Put On a Show at Adrenaline All-American Games

FRISCO, Texas — Cornell-bound Landon Johnson found net with 14.1 seconds remaining as the Team North edged Team South 11-10 in the Adrenaline Lacrosse All-American Boys Seniors Game this past Sunday at Ford Center's The Star.

“Great feeling,” said Johnson, who is from Eastlake, Washington. “I took advantage of the scoring opportunity. I got a great pick from my best friend Tate [Sedlachek] and found an opening.  Awesome game to finish off a great weekend.”

A sluggish first half had the South holding a 4-2 lead at intermission, thanks to a pair of goals from Rutgers-bound Mason Kelly (Aurora, Colo.) to start the game.  Amaan Cambrelen (Aurora, Colo./Ohio State) added a score as the South bolted to a quick 3-0 advantage. Davis Dolp (Portland, Ore./Le Moyne) got Team North on the board, scoring 16.5 seconds left in the quarter.

The two squads each tallied one goal in the second period. Colby Rossettie (San Diego, Calif./Johns Hopkins) brought the North to within 3-2 and Steele Crissman (St. Louis, Mo./Denver) tallied for Team South that forged a 4-2 halftime advantage.

The third quarter belonged to North goalie Keegan Puntney (Portland, Ore./Westminster), who was flawless in net — eight saves in the period — holding Team South scoreless while his teammates recorded four scores to build a 6-4 North lead heading to the final period.

Johnson registered a pair of scores bookended by goals from Auggie Chapman (Tiburon, Calif./Marquette) and Hunter Cristo (Tiburon, Calif./Dartmouth). That third-quarter masterpiece by Puntney earned him co-MVP honors along with Johnson.

“I was ready for it,” Puntney said. “I knew their attackers would come out slinging. I just wanted to do my part."

Both offenses came alive in the fourth stanza, combining for 11 goals in the quarter, after 10 total in the first three periods.

A Tanner Olrich (San Francisco, Calif./Virginia) goal gave Team North the game's largest lead at 8-5. Crissman rallied Team South, finding net three times in the final period — and finishing with a game-high four goals — including scores that tied the game at 8 and again at 10, the latter with 1:06 remaining in the highly competitive contest.

That set the stage for Johnson's game-winner.

Johnson led Team North with three goals, while Chapman added two scores and six others contributed one apiece.

Team South, paced by Crissman's four goals and Kelly's two, had four players chipping in one each. Duke-bound Alek Askeroglu (The Woodlands, Texas/Duke) dished out three assists for Team South.

The North's John Barnds (Woodside, Calif.), who is headed to reigning NCAA Division I champion Princeton, captured the halftime Fastest Shot Competition, rifling a 110-mph blast into the net.

Barnds is a two-time All-American and tied the California state high school record for points in one game (15).

FUTURES THRILLER

Youngsters dream about scoring game-winning goals. Jack Perkins (Dallas, Texas) had "one of those moments I will never forget" as he drilled home a sudden-death overtime laser to lift the South team to a 12-11 victory over a North squad in the Adrenaline All-American Boys Futures contest.

The game was a highlight reel for the local product. With the South trailing 11-9, Perkins found net with one minute left in regulation. Teammate Conner Van Dorn (Highland Park, Texas) scored at the 0:34 mark, sending the contest into overtime.

Perkins quickly ended the entertaining matchup, scoring less than a minute into the extra frame.

"Just an incredible game," Perkins said. "Just trying to stay focused and concentrate. Extremely confident in the team around me and we found a way to win."

Perkins finished with three goals in earning MVP honors and showcased his cannon in winning the halftime Fastest Shot Competition, topping off at 95 mph.

Brodie Ray (Saleh, Wash.) paced Team North with three goals and two assists.

BEST YET

Adrenaline co-founder Jono Zissi was thrilled for a very successful weekend.

“I truly thought this year’s event was the best one to date,” Zissi said. “All of the games were insanely competitive and close and the level of play and intensity were above and beyond for an all-star game.
