No. 2 Nyack (N.Y.) opened its state tournament run with a 17-4 win over Tappan Zee (N.Y.) in the Section 1 quarterfinals, one of several New York teams in action, while many others in the USA Lacrosse Public High School Girls’ National Top 25 have concluded seasons.

There are three newcomers in the Top 25. Conestoga (Pa.) is back in at No. 21 after placing third in their district playoffs. They downed previously ranked Upper Dublin (Pa.) for the bronze after edging Pennridge (Pa.) by a goal in the second round and avenging a loss to Ridley (Pa.) in the quarterfinals before a loss to No. 13 Springfield-Delco (Pa.) dropped them to the third-place game. They open the state tournament next.

South Side (N.Y.) debuts at No. 22 after earning their first Nassau Class C championship. Bobbie Creo scored five goals, Charlotte Rathjen had a hat trick and two assists and Sienna Connolly scored three goals as well in a 14-8 win over defending champion Wantagh (N.Y.). The Cyclones take on the winner of No. 5 Bayport-Blue Point and No. 17 Sayville (N.Y.) next in the Long Island Class C championship.

New Trier (Ill.) lost three of their first seven games this year. They haven’t lost since then to debut at No. 25. They won their sectional semifinal over Glenbrook South (Ill.) 22-3. They’ll take on Lake Forest (Ill.), a team they beat a week ago by 10 goals, in the final Friday.

No. 11 Broadneck (Md.) finished its season in familiar fashion with another state title. The Bruins captured their fifth Maryland Class 4A state championship in a row with an 8-6 win over Urbana (Md.). The Bruins trailed by four goals before scoring eight of the final nine goals. Ceci Facciponti had a hat trick and an assist, Nora Lopes and Savannah Libby had two goals apiece and Molly Robison made four saves over the final three quarters. The win sent Katy Kelley out on top as she announced her retirement after 25 years as an assistant and head coach at Broadneck.

In a big Top-25 matchup, Sophia Buffard scored a hat trick and had two assists and Morgan Farrell and Dylan McNamara scored two goals apiece as Sayville knocked off No. 23 Westhampton (N.Y.) in the Suffolk Class C playoffs. Sayville will get a shot at Bayport-Blue Point in the county final Saturday. Bayport is the top seed.

An 18-5 win over Locust Valley (N.Y.) gave No. 20 Cold Spring Harbor its seventh straight Nassau Class D championship. They’ll face the winner of Babylon (N.Y.) and Mattituck-Southold (N.Y.) in the Long Island Class D championship next week.
