SPARKS, Md. — The World Games, a multi-sport Olympic style event run by the International World Games Association, has announced the women’s lacrosse schedule for the 2025 event slated for this summer in Chengdu, China.
The U.S. will be in Pool B alongside Australia, Czechia and Ireland. Pool A will be comprised of Canada, China, Great Britain and Japan. Pool play games will take place from August 7-9, followed by the semifinals on August 10 and the championship on August 11.
The U.S. will open against Ireland on August 7 in its first game against the Irish in sixes competition before games against Australia, the bronze medalist in 2022, and Czechia. The U.S. beat Australia and Czechia during The World Games 2022 in pool play.
This edition of the World Games, a quadrennial that began in 1982, will feature up to 5,000 athletes competing in 34 sports with 60 disciplines and will feature women’s lacrosse as a medal sport for the third time. There will be no men’s competition at The World Games this year.
The United States won the inaugural gold medal in 2017, beating Canada 11-8 in the championship game of a full-field 10v10 format in Wroclaw, Poland. In 2022, Canada beat the U.S. 14-12 in the championship game in the sixes discipline in Birmingham, Alabama.
The World Games 2025 will once again use the sixes format that will be utilized for the 2028 Summer Olympics is Los Angeles. The U.S. team will be led by head coach Lindsey Munday, a two-time gold medal winner for the U.S. in field lacrosse who was named as the head coach for the women’s sixes program in April 2024.
Munday made her international coaching debut at the USA Lacrosse Experience in Indianapolis last October. She led the U.S. to a perfect 3-0 record in the round-robin event with victories over Colombia, Great Britain and Puerto Rico.
The U.S. will hold a training camp at USA Lacrosse Headquarters in Sparks, Md., from June 11-12 to determine the roster for The World Games. The team will also hold a staging camp in Los Angeles from Aug. 1-3 before heading to China for the championship event.
