Walker Wallace, a 2025 NCAA champion with Cornell, has always stood out on the field — any field, really.
At 6-foot-7, 242 pounds, it's hard for him not to be a cut above. He was a menace as a long-stick midfielder for the Big Red, contributing 19 ground balls, 11 caused turnovers and three goals during his team’s historic run to a title in Foxborough, Mass.
It was the ultimate lacrosse swan song. Now, Wallace is off chasing another dream.
The Richmond, Va., native entered the transfer portal in pursuit of his other passion and latched on with Virginia to play football as a graduate student this fall. He is the tallest tight end listed on the Cavaliers’ roster.
At St. Christopher’s School, Wallace helped the football team to a runner-up finish in the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association State Championship. He earned second-team all-state honors that season.
This will hardly be his first big-time transition in college. Having committed to Cornell as a goalie, Wallace made the switch to long-stick midfielder ahead of his junior season in 2023. He appeared in 14 games that season after not playing at all as a freshman in 2021 (COVID-19 restrictions) or as a sophomore in 2022.
