Princeton's Ryan Croddick is the USA Lacrosse Division I Men's Player of the Week, as announced Tuesday by USA Lacrosse Magazine.
The junior goalie, who had five saves while backing up Michael Gianforcaro in his first two seasons, made 21 saves in his first career start to help the Tigers upend Penn State 11-10 in overtime to open their season.
That the game was moved indoors to Holuba Hall — whose white walls and harsh lights can make it particularly hard for goalies to locate the ball (even if it's fluorescent green) — made the feat that much more impressive.
Croddick made 13 saves in the second half, including six in the fourth quarter. He also had an assist after making a save while on his back, jumping to his feet and firing an outlet to midfielder Jackson Green.
USA Lacrosse Players of the Week are chosen by USA Lacrosse Magazine staff and contributors.
Donovan Powell, A, Lenoir Rhyne
Powell scored three of his six goals in the fourth quarter to seal a 15-9 victory in a top-10 showdown with Rollins.
Tyler Manning, G, St. John Fisher
Manning secured the Cardinals’ first win of the season with an 18-save effort against a very game Haverford squad, 9-7. The result also included a shutout in the fourth quarter to give his team the chance to score both the go-ahead goal and the insurance goal to finish the game.
