With one more chance to cement his legacy among the all-time greats at Syracuse, Joey Spallina has all eyes on him.
While postseason accolades are the goal, the preseason accolades are rolling in. On Thursday, Spallina was named the USA Lacrosse Division I Men's Preseason Player of the Year.
Wearing the famed No. 22, Spallina helped usher Syracuse back to championship weekend for the first time since 2013 a season ago — and now his sights are set on winning the program's first NCAA title since 2009.
Statistically speaking, Spallina has lived up to those who have worn 22 before him. He enters his senior season with 108 goals and 138 assists and is 62 points away from passing Michael Powell for the most in program history.
A top NLL and PLL prospect, the 5-11 attackman is an early Tewaaraton Award favorite and has Syracuse ranked second in the USA Lacrosse Division I Men's Preseason Top 20.
