Aidan Maguire keeps making history.

The USILA announced its 2026 Division I All-Americans and award winners Thursday. Maguire, the Duke senior who last month became the first short-stick defensive midfielder to go No. 1 overall in a pro lacrosse draft, notched another first for the position by winning the Lt. Raymond J. Enners Outstanding Player of the Year award.

He joins Ajax Zappitello (2024), David Morrow (1993), Dave Pietramala (1989), Tom Haus (1986) and Mark Greenberg (1979) as the only defensive players (excluding goalies) so honored.

Speaking of defensive players, Notre Dame’s Shawn Lyght won the William C. Schmeisser Defensive Player of the Year award for the second straight year. Only eight players have ever taken home the Schmeisser Award in back-to-back seasons. Lyght has a chance to become the first three-peat winner next year. (Haus won it three times but not consecutively.)

Syracuse’s Joey Spallina won the Lt. Col. JI Turnbull Outstanding Attackman award, while there were co-winners in the race for the top midfielder and goalie in the country. North Carolina faceoff specialist Brady Wambach shared Lt. j.g. Donald MacLaughlin Jr. Outstanding Midfielder honors with Army midfielder Evan Plunkett, while Army’s Sean Byrne and Princeton’s Ryan Croddick both were recognized as the Ensign C. Markland Kelly Jr. Outstanding Goalie for 2026.

Maguire and Lyght are also the only two college players who were invited to the U.S. Men’s National Team training camp next month in Charlotte, N.C. USA Lacrosse released that list Thursday.
