A historic season for Jacksonville ended Sunday in the second round of the NCAA Division I men's lacrosse tournament, as Notre Dame blitzed the Dolphins in South Bend and won 18-6 behind five goals and one assist from Luke Miller.
Matt Jeffery had two goals and three assists, Teddy Lally had a hat trick and nine Irish took part in the scoring. Notre Dame, the No. 2 seed, will play Johns Hopkins in the quarterfinals.
The Irish led from the first goal of the game and went into the halftime recess up 9-1. Jacksonville failed to string together consecutive goals until the final two tallies of the game, one from William Krupsky and another from Daylin John-Hill.
Making its first NCAA tournament berth in program history, Jacksonville also won its first-ever NCAA tournament game when it defeated Robert Morris in a play-in game last week. Notre Dame will make its fourth-straight appearance in the NCAA quarterfinals.
