St. Bonaventure has hired former Limestone coach Brendan Storrier to take over as head coach of the Bonnies men’s lacrosse program, the university announced Wednesday.
Storrier brings a winning pedigree to Western New York, having led the Saints to the NCAA Division II tournament the last four years, including semifinal appearances in 2022 and 2023. Limestone unexpectedly closed this spring.
“We believe we found the perfect fit to lead St. Bonaventure's men's lacrosse program into this new era,” St. Bonaventure athletic director Bob Beretta said. “Throughout his career, Brendan has earned a reputation as a tireless worker, a selfless leader and a championship-level coach. He has a proven track record of success, leading his Limestone teams to excellence on and off the playing field. His teams play with a great deal of toughness and tenacity, traits we aspire to instill in our Bonnie student-athletes.”
A former All-American as a Limestone player and three-time SAC Coach of the Year, Storrier compiled a 66-13 record (83.5 percent) over the last four years. He was an assistant coach for the Saints’ national championship teams in 2014, 2015 and 2017. Storrier was the head coach at Mars Hill from 2019-2021.
“Brendan Storrier is one of the most passionate and driven competitors I've ever coached,” former Limestone head coach Mike Cerino said. “As a player at Limestone, he brought intensity, leadership, and a high lacrosse IQ to every practice and game. As a coach, he matured into one of the most dynamic offensive minds in the country and was instrumental in building our national championship teams. St. Bonaventure is getting a tireless worker, a strong recruiter and a true program builder. I couldn't be prouder to see one of our own lead at the Division I level.”
Storrier succeeds Randy Mearns, who oversaw the launch of St. Bonaventure’s program in 2017 and spent seven seasons at the helm. The Bonnies made it to the MAAC final in 2022 but have struggled to keep pace in the Atlantic 10. They were 6-10 (1-4 A10) this year.
“We are excited to get to campus to meet the players, their families and all of the St. Bonaventure community,” Storrier said. “I look forward to working with the faculty and staff on mentoring these young men and continuing to build a culture of excellence.”
