Mid-Atlantic Top 10

It only took a second week to greatly impact the Mid-Atlantic Region. Malvern Prep (Pa.) handled MIAA A Conference champ Calvert Hall (Md.) then raced by Landon (Md.) to remain perfect. Bullis (Md.) jumped into the rankings and continued to impress with a win over a Haverford (Pa.) team that already had defeated McDonogh (Md.). Another rankings newcomer, Paul VI (Va.) won an overtime thriller over St. Anne's-Belfield (Va.), a team that knocked Archbishop Spalding (Md.) from the Top 10. St. John's College (D.C.) remained unbeaten with a crucial win over Boys' Latin (Md.) in a week that saw

This week brings the first looks at two New Jersey powers. Top-ranked Lawrenceville and Delbarton will open their seasons.

Our Mid-Atlantic rankings cover D.C., Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia.

1. Lawrenceville (N.J.), 0-0

The Big Red make their much anticipated debut against Calvert Hall (Md.) on March 19. Calvert Hall defeated Lawrenceville last year and has the advantage of playing a couple of official games already. Lawrenceville has a challenging start with four straight road games. They’ll also play at St. Paul’s (Md.) this week. Previous: 1

2. Malvern Prep (Pa.), 4-0

The Friars added two more impressive wins to their resume. Jamie McCracken continued his torrid start with a hat trick, Danny Lucovich scored twice, George Laskowski and Max DelVescovo combined for 10 ground balls and Thomas Ploszay made 13 saves in an 11-7 win over previously unbeaten Calvert Hall (Md.). TJ McDermott won 12 of 17 faceoffs and Joey Murphy scored once and had two assists. Malvern followed it up by winning their IAC/Inter-Ac Challenge game, 11-6, over Landon (Md.). Lucovich posted five points on four goals and an assist and Murphy had a hat trick while Tommy Onderdonk scored twice and Chase Deves had two helpers. Eddie Rudloff scooped up five ground balls and McDermott went 12-for-15 at X. Previous: 4

3. Calvert Hall (Md.), 2-1

The Cardinals fell for the first time this season, dropping an 11-7 decision to Malvern in their only game of the week. Calvert Hall looks to bounce back with a pair of contests this week against Hill Academy (Ont.) and Lawrenceville. Previous: 2

4. Bullis (Md.), 4-0

The Bulldogs continued their hot start with another pair of solid wins. After handing Gonzaga (D.C.) a 10-6 loss to start the week, Bullis picked up a key 7-6 win over Haverford (Pa.), which came into the IAC/Inter-Ac Challenge matchup with a higher ranking. After falling behind, 3-1, in the first half, Bullis broke a 3-3 tie with a pair of goals from Cooper Kuehl and one from Mason Keller for a 6-3 lead going into the fourth quarter and they did not relent the advantage. Jake Zamoiski made 16 saves and Jacob Buxton had a pair of assists. Previous: NR

5. Haverford School (Pa.), 1-1

The Fords got another five goals from Conor Morsell but could not overcome a third-quarter deficit in a 7-6 loss to Bullis. Jackson Gillis kept it close with 12 saves and Gavin Morrissey went 10 for 15 at X. Chris Burnetta supplied four assists. They face Loyola Blakefield (Md.) and Delbarton (N.J.) this week. Previous: 5

6. McDonogh (Md.), 2-1

The Eagles bounced back from an 11-9 loss to Haverford with an 11-5 win over Gonzaga (D.C.). Once again, it was Hunter Metz supplying a chunk of the offense. The Notre Dame-bound senior had seven points on five goals and two assists to help McDonogh snap a 4-4 halftime tie. Weston Guerra made 19 saves, 13 in the second half. Ciaran Sweeney won 14 of 20 faceoffs and T.C. Goodman had a hat trick. Previous: 6

7. Seton Hall Prep (N.J.), 0-0

The Pirates won’t open the season until April. They’ll put their depth on display coming off a state championship season. They return talent with Joe DelMauro (Utah) back on attack with Owen Dunleavy (UMBC) and Bryce Pfeffer (UMBC), Lucas Angel (Fairfield) and Michael Scurti (St. John Fisher) experienced at FOGO, long poles Sean Hayes (St. Joe's) and Jagger Zemachson (Duke) bring physicality, and SSDMs Alex Coakley (Georgetown), Cooper Christian (Sacred Heart) and Derek Sabel (Navy) have been reliable. Previous: 7

8. St. John's (D.C.), 2-0

Another week, another win for the Cadets. The goalie gurus have another good one in Ryan Inzer, who allowed only three goals in a 7-3 win over Boys’ Latin (Md.). St. John’s used a balanced attack at the other end. They built a 3-1 lead by the half and Boys’ Latin never caught up after Jack Lutz had three points to begin the third quarter. Previous: 8

9. Delbarton (N.J.), 0-0

The Green Wave kicks off their season on March 18 with Glen Ridge (N.J.). Things get significantly tougher then with a game at Haverford. Delbarton has the sort of firepower to pull the upset led by seniors Chase Houser (High Point), Jack Sheridan (Bucknell), Pierce Bolger (Brown), Dara Corr (Cornell) and Christian Troczynski (Cornell). Previous: 9

10. Paul VI (Va.), 4-0

In a rematch of last year’s state championship, Towson commit Colton Sirois sent an absolute laser into the top left corner for a 13-12 overtime win over St. Anne’s-Belfield (Va.), which beat them to end last year. STAB had made a huge 3-0 run over the final two minutes of regulation to force overtime. Sirois had to let one go with the shot clock winding down and it was a beauty to keep the Panthers unbeaten in the early going and hand St. Anne’s their first loss of the year. Heath Holland and Niko Colavecchi both had hat tricks and Will Kovacs made 18 saves. Only IMG (Fla.) had stayed within four goals of the Panthers before the OT game. Previous: NR

SOUTH Top 10

A pair of South showdowns affected the region rankings. Jupiter (Fla.) edged St. Thomas Aquinas (Fla.) in overtime to further enhance their early resume. Roswell (Ga.) extended its winning streak by ending Lambert's (Ga.).

St. Thomas will look to rebound against a Benjamin (Fla.) team that picked up a pair of solid wins last week. Benjamin, too, stands to jump if it can win the matchup, and it also has an upcoming challenge with No. 2 Highland Park (Texas).

Our South rankings cover the region from North Carolina south to Florida and west to Texas.

1. St. Andrew's (Fla.), 9-0

The Scots were idle last week after their 22-1 win over Cardinal Newman (Fla.) on March 4. St. Andrew’s prepares for a tough test this week against Boys’ Latin (Md.). Previous: 1

2. Highland Park (Texas), 8-1

The Fighting Scots enter the most challenging stretch of their season riding a wave of victories, most recently a 15-6 win over St. Mark’s (Texas). The coming week features three interstate matchups, including a showdown with Benjamin (Fla.). Previous: 2

3. Jupiter (Fla.), 9-1

The Warriors earned arguably their biggest win of the season, defeating St. Thomas Aquinas (Fla.) 10-9 in overtime. Junior David Druhot led the way with three goals and four assists, while Gavin Meyers also recorded a hat trick. Previous: 5

4. St. Thomas Aquinas (Fla.), 6-2

It was a tough-luck week for the Raiders, who dropped two nail-biters. First came a 10-9 overtime loss to Jupiter (Fla.), followed by a 5-4 defeat against Boys’ Latin (Md.). Diego Salazar continues to lead the offense, averaging nearly five goals per game. Previous: 3

5. Episcopal Dallas (Texas), 5-0

The Eagles delivered another dominant performance, shutting out McKinney (Texas) until the closing minutes of a 25-1 victory. Episcopal Dallas will not play another game in Texas until April as it travels next to Lucy Beckham (S.C.). Previous: 4

6. Benjamin (Fla.), 8-2

The Buccaneers survived two tight contests against quality opponents. Benjamin pulled out a 10-8 victory over Bishop Moore (Fla.), then edged Dallas Jesuit (Texas) 8-7 in the first meeting between the programs. Benjamin has a week off before facing St. Thomas Aquinas (Fla.). Previous: 6

7. Bolles (Fla.), 12-0

After a quick start that saw the Bulldogs win 12 games in 26 days, Bolles had a week off. The Bulldogs return to action this week with a trip to Georgia to face Richmond Hill. Previous: 8

8. Roswell (Ga.), 9-0

Kaden Parla helped the Hornets maintain their unbeaten season and extend their winning streak to 19 games dating to last year. His four goals proved pivotal in an 11-10 win over previously unbeaten Lambert (Ga.). Parla also scored six goals in a 15-5 win over Marist, while Roswell added a 15-3 victory over Pope (Ga.). Previous: 10

9. Lambert (Ga.), 8-1

The Longhorns’ unbeaten run ended against Roswell. Lambert first pulled out a one-goal win over Charlotte Catholic (N.C.) and eked out a 9-8 victory against Walton (Ga.), but fell 11-10 to Roswell. Previous: 7

10. Ponte Vedra (Fla.), 11-1

The Sharks bounced back from their loss to Jupiter with three wins. Ponte Vedra defeated Creekside (Fla.) 22-2, Wando (S.C.) 9-3 and Oceanside Collegiate (S.C.) 17-8. Previous: NR

West Top 10

When the dust settled from Colorado's top two programs taking on St. Ignatius (Calif.), the rankings looked a bit different. Cherry Creek won its meeting to jump to No. 1 while the Wildcats drop a spot to No. 2. They stay there because they won the matchup against Valor Christian. Cherry Creek will be tested again when it faces No. 3 Loyola-Los Angeles (Calif.) this week in another great interstate game.

Bishop's School (Calif.) is the lone newcomer in the region. The Knights will take on Torrey Pines (Calif.) in a Top-10 encounter this week. Torrey Pines cemented its ranking with a win over another ranked team, Brophy Prep (Ariz.).

Our West rankings cover the Mountain, Pacific and Northwest regions and at least part of the Southwest.

1. Cherry Creek (Colo.), 2-0

Cherry Creek jumped to No. 1 after handing St. Ignatius (Calif.) a 15-11 defeat in its second game of the season. Junior attacker Wyatt Branish led the offense with five goals, an assist and three ground balls, while senior midfielder Channing Walter added five goals and three ground balls of his own. Goalie Cole Gallup was strong between the pipes. The Bruins face Loyola-Los Angeles (Calif.) on March 18. Previous: 4

2. St. Ignatius (Calif.), 4-1

St. Ignatius drops one spot after falling 15-11 to Cherry Creek on the road but offset the loss with a 9-4 win over Valor Christian (Colo.) earlier in the week. Holy Cross commit Bryson Lewis has been steady in goal throughout the early season. The Wildcats return home to regroup before a demanding stretch ahead. Previous: 1

3. Loyola–Los Angeles (Calif.), 8-1

Loyola added wins over St. Francis–La Cañada (Calif.) and Sacred Heart Prep (Calif.) to move to 8-1, maintaining the deepest body of work in the region. The Cubs’ offense has shown no signs of slowing down, and a March 18 matchup with Cherry Creek looms as the biggest test yet for both teams. Previous: 2

4. Valor Christian (Colo.), 2-1

Valor Christian drops after falling 9-4 to St. Ignatius (Calif.) in its first true test of the season. The loss is a data point, not a verdict — the Eagles’ faceoff unit of Brandon Wright, Hudson Bachman and Corbin Brigham remains one of the region’s best, and the roster has the depth to respond. How Valor bounces back in the coming weeks will define their standing in the West. Previous: 3

5. Marin Catholic (Calif.), 4-2

Marin Catholic took losses to Cherry Creek and Valor Christian on its Colorado road trip but rebounded with a 15-3 win over St. Francis–Mountain View (Calif.) to close the week. Both losses came against teams now ranked in the top four, which keeps the Wildcats’ résumé in solid shape. They face Loyola-Los Angeles on March 20. Previous: 5

6. Sacred Heart Prep (Calif.), 2-1

Sacred Heart Prep suffered a 14-3 setback against Loyola-Los Angeles this week, a margin that raises questions heading into a tougher stretch. The Gators will have opportunities to answer with upcoming matchups against Cherry Creek and Valor Christian later in the month. Previous: 6

7. Torrey Pines (Calif.), 4-1

Torrey Pines continued to build momentum with a 19-1 win over Granite Hills (Calif.) and a 9-6 victory over Brophy Prep (Ariz.) to close the week. Head coach Jono Zissi’s Falcons are now first in the CA San Diego Boys CIF section and third in California overall. They host Bishop’s School (Calif.) on March 18 in a key San Diego sectional matchup. Previous: 7

8. Mater Dei Santa Ana (Calif.), 5-0

Mater Dei rolled past Edison (Calif.) 21-3 to remain undefeated, outscoring opponents 66-23 through five games. Head coach Knute Kraus’ Monarchs have yet to face a ranked opponent since their 10-9 opening win over Brophy Prep (Ariz.), but a March 25 road trip to Mira Costa (Calif.) will provide a meaningful early measuring stick. Previous: 9

9. Brophy (Ariz.), 9-2

Brophy dropped a 9-6 decision to Torrey Pines (Calif.) this week but remains one of the region’s most active teams at 9-2. Senior captain Ross Jacobsen, a Dartmouth commit, has been a reliable offensive force throughout the early season. Both losses have come against ranked opponents, and the back-to-back Arizona state champions have enough on their résumé to hold their position. Previous: 10

10. Bishop’s School (Calif.), 5-0

Bishop’s enters the rankings as one of the region’s last undefeated teams, picking up wins over Carlsbad (Calif.) 10-5 and Foothill Santa Ana (Calif.) 7-5 among their five victories. Head coach Steve Sepeta’s Knights are second in the CA San Diego Boys CIF section and have outscored opponents 49-20. A March 18 road game at Torrey Pines (Calif.) will immediately test their top-10 standing. Previous: NR
