A week after seeing only one change, there was plenty of movement in the second update to the USA Lacrosse High School Boys' National Top 25, presented by CWENCH Hydration. There were significant changes in the top 10, and Virginia powers Paul IV and St. Anne's-Belfield earned spots in the Top 25 for the first time this spring.
Wins by Malvern (Pa.) over Calvert Hall (Md.) and Landon (Md.) jumped the Friars into the top three. Just behind is Culver (Ind.), which used its 10-man ride and Duke-bound goaltender Bodhi Harmon to stifle St. Anthony's (N.Y.), 11-8. The matchup went the other way a year ago, and Culver has looked impressive early.
Bullis (Md.) continues to climb. The Bulldogs are showing no signs of youth after big graduation losses on offense. Bullis upended Haverford (Pa.) in a tight game to remain unbeaten.
St. Anne's-Belfield picked up a big win over highly regarded Archbishop Spalding (Md.). Paul IV, though, bumped STAB down one spot with an overtime win on an incredible shot by Colton Sirois.
The Northeast Region and Midwest Region are just starting their seasons. Chaminade (N.Y.) had to rally from a four-goal deficit to top Loyola Blakefield (Md.) in its opener. James Gillis had two goals and four assists, and John Balsamo netted a hat trick for the Flyers. They and St. Anthony's were the only ranked Northeast teams in action last week.
The second week already brought wholesale changes, and that's bound to continue with more top-flight games on tap. Scroll below for this week's USA Lacrosse High School Boys' National Top 25, with each team's previous ranking denoted in parenthesis.
