Summit stayed at No. 1 after the Hilltoppers fell 9-5 to Delbarton (N.J.). They were leading the top-three national team 5-2 at halftime but did not score in the second half. It’s a common theme among the New Jersey public schools that have struggled with their private counterparts thus far, but otherwise have looked quite talented.
Neither Westfield (N.J.) nor Ridgewood (N.J.) dropped in the ranking after losses either. Westfield’s second loss came against the No. 2 team in the state, private power Seton Hall Prep (N.J.). They’ll face Delbarton next week. Ridgewood lost for the second time, too, this time to Don Bosco Prep (N.J.). They also lost to Delbarton to start the season.
Ridgewood takes on another ranked Jersey team, No. 20 Moorestown (N.J.), this Saturday. Moorestown’s first loss? To Pingry, another private school.
Kent Island (Md.) moves into the ranking at No. 11 after a three-win week to stay perfect. Included in those victories was a 9-7 win over previous No. 13 Urbana. They’ve also edged Stephen Decatur (Md.) to give them their only loss of the year.
Ridgefield (Conn.) has big wins over Manhasset (N.Y.) and Wantagh (N.Y.) that helped push it up seven spots to No. 14. That's the biggest jump by any team this week.
Cape Henlopen (Del.) remains strongly positioned in the national ranking. Its only two losses have come at the hands of private schools, with Salesianum (Del.) handing them their second defeat this week.
Rye enters the ranking at No. 24. Its 1-1 record doesn’t sparkle, but its lone loss came to No. 5 Garden City (N.Y.). Rye is expected to rebound in a big way. Darien (Conn.) was 0-1 last week before reeling off three straight wins, and Rye could do something similar.
Olentangy Liberty needed overtime but knocked off Upper Arlington (Ohio) in a huge Midwest showdown. The win pushes them to the top of the region and into the national ranking for the first time.
