Ridgewood, Wantagh, Pittsford Make USA Lacrosse Public High School Boys' National Top 25
Ridgewood (N.J.), Wantagh (N.Y.) and Pittsford (N.Y.) are ranked in this week’s USA Lacrosse Public High School Boys’ National Top 25, presented by CWENCH Hydration.
Ridgewood won eight straight games beginning with an overtime win over Chatham (N.J.) and ending with an overtime win over Westfield (N.J.) before falling to private school Don Bosco (N.J.). The Maroon are the top seed for the Bergen County Tournament, and could see Bosco again in that final.
Wantagh has played a tough schedule, and its three losses have come to ranked teams Garden City (N.Y.), Massapequa (N.Y.) and Syosset (N.Y.). It owns a big win over ranked Cold Spring Harbor (N.Y.).
Pittsford joins the rankings after an unbeaten start to their season, opening with a close win against Webster Thomas (N.Y.), toppling West Genesee (N.Y.) in overtime and edging Victor (N.Y.) by a goal.
Other notable developments:
— After winning its first 10 games of the season, No. 3 Summit (N.J.) finally met its match. Private school powerhouse Delbarton (N.J.) won a showdown of the Garden State’s top two teams Wednesday, 10-3. Summit returns to action against Lincoln-Sudbury (Mass.) on Sunday.
— Cold Spring Harbor edged Manhasset (N.Y.) in double overtime in a terrific matchup. Manhasset followed it up with a tough loss to Catholic school juggernaut Chaminade (N.Y.).
— Syosset pulled off a pair of overtime wins before stumbling hard against Garden City to end the week.
— Radnor (Pa.) needed overtime to get by Ridley (Pa.), whose only losses are to the Raptors and Springfield Delco (Pa.). Springfield next faces Marple Newtown (Pa.) and Garnet Valley (Pa.).
— Severna Park (Md.) meets Broadneck (Md.) for the second time this season Friday. Severna Park won the first meeting, 15-7. Broadneck last week knocked off previously ranked Cape Henlopen (Del.).
— Darien (Conn.) faces a tough slate this week with consecutive games against St. Anthony’s (N.Y.), New Canaan (Conn.) and Staples (Conn.). Staples also has a big challenge with Brunswick (Conn.) today.
— Scotch Plains-Fanwood (N.J.) and Shawnee (N.J.) meet Saturday in a matchup of strong Jersey squads. Shawnee was leading national No. 1 Garden City 7-6 going into the fourth quarter before falling, 12-8 while Scotch Plains has wins over Westfield and Rumson-Fair Haven (N.J.) to its credit.
— Kent Island (Md.) closed its regular season with just the one loss to Urbana (Md.). The Buccaneers have outscored opponents, 211-54, this season. Urbana has just one loss, but hasn’t played since April 20.
— Robinson (Va.) has won seven straight games and Madison (Va.) has reeled off five straight wins.
— Ponte Vedra (Fla.) blew by Buchholz (Fla.) 20-5 to advance to the Class 2A regional final against Gulf Breeze (Fla.) Friday while Jupiter (Fla.) will host St. Thomas Aquinas (Fla.) in another 2A regional final Friday. Jupiter comes off a 19-5 win over Martin County (Fla.).
— In region updates, New Albany (Ohio) took the final spot in the Midwest rankings. In the West, Eastlake (Wash.) and Lakewood (Colo.) make their debuts with a combined 19-3 record between them.
