Springfield, Oak Knoll Debut in USA Lacrosse High School Girls' National Top 25
Springfield-Delco (Pa.) defeated previously ranked Archbishop Carroll (Pa.) in the Pennsylvania AAA state tournament quarterfinals and debuts at No. 23 in the USA Lacrosse High School Girls' National Top 25, presented by CWENCH Hydration.
Springfield had lost to Carroll in the regular season, but avenged the loss when it mattered most. The quality win by the Cougars bumped them ahead of several other public school teams that completed their seasons already. They've been ranked in the public schools-only top 25 for several weeks.
Springfield's win also helped to bring in an Oak Knoll (N.J.) team at a higher ranking thanks to significant wins over Sacred Heart Greenwich (Conn.), Morristown (N.J.) and Summit (N.J.) this season. Oak Knoll has won 18 straight games and will face Kent Place (N.J.) for the New Jersey non-public state tournament championship today.
Elsewhere:
- Darien (Conn.) and Sayville (N.Y.) continued their unbeaten marches toward state championships, but they were the only top-five teams active last week.
- Garden City (N.Y.) will meet Nyack (N.Y.) in a Class B state semifinal this week.
- West Chester Henderson (Pa.) has advanced to the semifinal of Pennsylvania’s AAA state tournament. The Warriors held on for a quarterfinal win, and now they have to go through Springfield-Delco.
- Conestoga (Pa.) waits on the other side. The Pioneers’ only losses this season have come against Henderson.
- Huntington (N.Y.) and Penfield (N.Y.) have also advanced to their respective state semifinals. If each would win, they would face each other for the state championship. Huntington plays Suffern (N.Y.) and Penfield faces Shaker (N.Y.).
