Limestone absolutely had its chances. And goalie Cory Lyons ensured throughout both overtime periods that the Saints would have even more.
But not even Lyons’ 17 saves were enough to keep Limestone’s final season alive. Maryville, one of the surprise teams of 2025, eliminated the Saints in the NCAA Division II quarterfinals on Sunday on Justin Simonson’s game-winning, man-up, overtime goal.
Limestone and Maryville traded leads for most of the final three quarters, but Limestone appeared to be on its way to the semifinals when Grant Rodgers gave the Saints the lead with 3:57 to go.
Simonson had other thoughts. His shot from the close left wing with 11 seconds left tied things at 12 and forced overtime.
That close left wing was the sweet spot, as that’s the same spot Simonson ripped the game-winning goal from with 25 seconds left in extra time.
Saint Anselm def. Seton Hill 9-8
How fitting that a guy with “may” in his last name was just the guy Saint Anselm needed to advance to the semifinals.
Entering the fourth quarter tied with Seton Hill, the Hawks turned to Matt Lemay, who scored with 13:45 to go and then tacked on another 44 seconds later. They couldn’t pull away from a feisty Seton Hill squad, but the two-goal spurt was enough for Saint Anselm to win 9-8.
Lemay scored three times, while Maverick Lyon and Colin Mulvey added two apiece. Finn Granara made 13 saves.
Adelphi def. Molloy 21-7
Michael Durnin scored six goals, Noah Gibson scored five and nine players scored in total for Adelphi in its 21-7 win over Molloy. The Panthers assisted 15 of their 21 goals.
A 10-goal run, entirely in the third quarter, blew the game open.
Tampa def. Wingate 13-9
A balanced effort of 13 goals from nine scorers improved Tampa’s record to 20-0 with its 13-9 win over Wingate. Tied at 5 at the half, Tampa scored four of the first five goals in the third quarter to find a little room to breathe.
