Culver Bounces Back, Brunswick Survives Scares in USA Lacrosse High School Boys' National Top 25
No. 1 Brunswick (Conn.) won a pair of tight games and Culver Academy (Ind.) rebounded from its first loss with a top-10 win over Deerfield (Mass.) to hold its spot in the USA Lacrosse High School Boys' National Top 25, presented by CWENCH Hydration.
Two teams also bounced back from losses to re-enter the rankings. St. Sebastian's (Mass.) and St. John's (D.C.) are back on the winning track.
Deerfield's loss was the only loss of any top-10 team in the week, though Brunswick got all it could handle with Avon Old Farms (Conn.) and Salisbury (Conn.). Both games were decided by a goal apiece, the latter in overtime.
Haverford School's (Pa.) second win of the season over Episcopal Academy (Pa.) solidified its league standing and made the Fords one of the biggest movers in the rankings.
Others could be on the move depending how several key matchups finish in the regular season and playoffs. St. Anthony's (N.Y.) and Chaminade (N.Y.) will meet in one important title meeting with national implications.
Other notable developments:
— Deerfield faces another good challenger to end its regular season. Salisbury (Conn.) visits ripe to pull an upset.
— Lawrenceville (N.J.) wrapped up its regular season on a high note with three straight lopsided wins. The Big Red will be playing in the Prep Nationals this weekend.
— Avon Old Farms (Conn.) looks to return to winning against a Taft (Conn.) team that is trying to avoid a third straight loss to end its regular season.
— Calvert Hall (Md.) is the top seed in the MIAA A Conference. The Cardinals are trying to repeat as champions. They'll face Loyola Blakefield (Md.) for the second time in two weeks today, but this one is to punch their ticket to the championship game.
— Paul VI (Va.) and St. John's College (D.C.) were to meet for the WCAC title.
— Malvern Prep (Pa.) is the top seed for the Pennsylvania private school state tournament. Haverford School is the No. 2 seed.
— Tabor (Mass.) will be the top seed for their ISL playoffs.
— Delbarton (N.J.) is playing next for a county crown. Summit (N.J.) already won its county. State play won't begin for two more weeks.
