Colgate has suspended its men’s lacrosse team pending an investigation into electronic communications among team members that may have violated the university’s policies and student conduct standards, the Colgate Maroon-News reported Tuesday.
Administrators notified the campus community about the suspension in an email Tuesday stating the university became aware of the potential violation Monday.
The email did not specify the nature of the communications nor how long the team would be suspended.
“As with all student conduct investigations, the university does not predetermine any findings of responsibility or of outcomes,” athletic director Yariv Amir and vice president Paul J. McLoughlin II wrote.
Colgate will cease fall ball practices and games while the investigation proceeds. The Raiders are coming off a 6-9 season (4-4 Patriot League) under eighth-year head coach Matt Karweck.
