CARY, N.C. — A defensive showcase lasting nearly 25 minutes between the second and fourth quarters was enough for second-seeded Boston College to withstand a late rally from third-seeded Syracuse in the second NCAA semifinal Friday at WakeMed Soccer Park.
By escaping with a 10-7 victory, Boston College sets up a rematch of the 2023 NCAA title game against top-seeded Northwestern. Last season, Northwestern beat BC 18-6 to break an 11-year title drought.
The rematch is scheduled for Sunday at 12 p.m. Eastern.
Shea Dolce backstopped the Boston College defense by making 12 saves — one off her season high. Rachel Clark had five goals and one assist, and Mckenna Davis had one goal and four assists.
Leading 9-4 after the third quarter — a period during which BC held Syracuse scoreless — BC surrendered three goals in less than three minutes as Syracuse made a late push that ultimately fell just short.
