There are three new teams in the USA Lacrosse Division I Women’s Top 20 after a week one in which chalk held near the top and unpredictable results defined the bottom.
Stanford (No. 17), Louisville (No. 19) and Richmond (No. 20) each earned an upset win during the season’s opening weekend and vaulted into the rankings conversation as a result.
The Cardinal renewed an old Pac-12 rivalry with USC and downed the Women of Troy behind seven goals from sophomore Aliya Polisky.
Louisville was one of two teams to defeat preseason No. 16 Denver this weekend (Ohio State being the other), and the Cardinals rode three goals from Lauren Figas and nine saves from J Pleck to victory. Richmond relied on its experience to oust a young Penn State team 12-10.
Elsewhere in the Top 20, Florida has climbed two spots and Johns Hopkins has fallen three spots after the Gators’ one-goal win over the Blue Jays at Homewood Field in a Friday matinee.
