UMBC Hires Mike Faith to Lead Women's Lacrosse Program

UMBC announced Monday that Mike Faith has been hired as the new head coach of its women’s lacrosse program.

Faith, who previously built a Division III powerhouse at Franklin & Marshall, has more than 300 career wins and spent the past season at Stevenson. He was an assistant at UMBC when the Retrievers made their only NCAA Division I tournament appearances in 2002 and 2003.

Overall, he has 22 years of head coaching experience and will take over at UMBC after the school parted ways with Amy Slade, who led the Retrievers for the last 14 years.

UMBC finished 7-8 this year after falling to Vermont in the America East semifinals.

“Coming back to UMBC is a full-circle moment for me,” Faith said. “This is where I grew as a coach, competed at the highest level and learned what it takes to build something special.”

Faith’s stops as a head coach include Elizabethtown (2004-2012), F&M (2013-24), Millersville (2025) and Stevenson (2026). A three-time Centennial Conference Coach of the Year, he led the Diplomats to the final four in 2014, 2016, 2023 and 2024.

“Coach Faith’s wealth of success and experience stood out throughout the entire process,” UMBC athletic director Tiffany D. Tucker said. “He has been a winner and a great representative of the game of women's lacrosse his entire career. We could not be more excited to bring him into the fold to lead our program.”
