In conjunction with this year’s National Celebrate Lacrosse Week, USA Lacrosse is proudly recognizing volunteers from across the country who are helping to grow the game on the grass roots level. Each day, we will profile someone who makes a positive difference in their community. Join us as we celebrate local lacrosse heroes from coast-to-coast.
Name: Brig Platt
Local Lacrosse Organization: Santa Rosa Lacrosse Club
Location: Santa Rosa, California
HOW PLATT IMPACTS THE LOCAL GROWTH OF THE GAME
Platt discovered lacrosse in 2022 when his son joined the Santa Rosa Steelheads’ 10U team. Near the end of that first season, the team needed coaching help with practices and games, so when asked to step in, Platt accepted. What began as a few weeks of help became a lasting passion for lacrosse. Platt returned the following season as the team’s head coach, and his willingness to contribute has extended from the field to club leadership. He served as vice president in 2024, and as club president in 2025 and 2026.
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT AND CONTRIBUTIONS
Platt is very active in creating opportunities for his players. In 2025, he invited players from across the league to join the Santa Rosa Steelheads for the summer season. That effort led to the establishment of Iron Oaks Lacrosse Club in fall 2025, bringing together players from the region’s local clubs for competitive opportunities beyond the spring season. A primary goal has been to identify competitive local tournaments to give players great competition without the high fees and time commitment of a true travel club. Iron Oaks has now grown to five teams, ranging from 10U through the junior varsity high school, and includes players from across Napa, Sonoma, and northern Marin counties.
WHAT HIS PEERS HAVE TO SAY
“Brig is always focused on helping players develop, compete, and stay connected to lacrosse, especially outside of the traditional spring season. He organizes fall events as preparation for spring competition and in recent years, has taken his 12U team to regional tournaments, including the Marin Classic, San Francisco’s Battle of the Bay, and the Grapevine Classic. His greatest contribution reflects a simple commitment: when young athletes want to keep playing, help create a place for them to do it.”
