If it’s a clutch situation, expect the ball in Apuzzo’s stick. “Her edge is her competitive spirit when the moment’s the biggest,” head coach Acacia Walker-Weinstein said.

The 2025 Tewaaraton Award winner as a redshirt-freshman tied the NCAA Division I single-season goals record this season by depositing 109 goals. She’s crafty and deceptive but can also shoot with power and initiate from X. Walker-Weinstein expects all of her attackers to do a little bit of everything.

Kent doesn’t always say much, but when she does, her teammates listen. One of the smoothest players on the roster, Kent is Walker-Weinstein’s “quiet leader.” Kent is all business on the field and a wizard with the ball. “She’s steady, consistent and reliable,” Walker-Weinstein said.

LoPinto is the perfect player for this star-studded attack because she’s so malleable. An excellent finisher, LoPinto’s skillset allows her to succeed in any combination of offensive pieces. “She can play different lineups depending on how we decide to do it,” Walker Weinstein said. “She’s so easy to play with.”

North is more than just a highlight waiting to happen. Perhaps North’s most unsung ability is how she can connect with teammates and light up a room with her high energy style.  Walker-Weinstein said she’s woven into the fabric of the team’s culture. “She’s the spirit of the team,” she said. Recovering from surgery to repair a torn Achilles tendon, North remains on the roster and is traveling with the team to Japan.

Good luck defending Scane when she has a full head of steam. There’s a reason the folks at Northwestern started calling her The Scane Train, after all. Walker-Weinstein values her competitive drive and said that somehow she continues to get stronger and faster. One of her most overlooked traits is her tenacity on the ride.

Brandt is everything Walker-Weinstein wants a U.S. player to be. She’s committed, coachable and the exact style of two-way midfielder she wants to showcase. Expect the middies, Brandt included, to play a lot of defense. “Two-way middies are going away, but not as long as I’m coaching,” Walker-Weinstein said.

Expect to see Edmondson as a defensive midfielder — though that’s no indictment on her offense. Edmondson is steady on the defensive side of things, and she’s a spark plug for the transition game who will have the green light to use their speed and trigger the offense.

There’s nobody faster than Kennedy, and on a team chock full of two-way middies, Walker-Weinstein called her “the ideal.” She’s the first back on defense and the first one plowing full steam ahead up the field on offense. “She just doesn’t have an off button,” Walker-Weinstein said.

Her superpower is her draw prowess, but Mastroianni does a whole lot more than starting possessions. She ends them, too. “When she is confident, she is so miserable to play defense against,” Walker-Weinstein said.

A leader in the midfield and in the locker room, McCool won a gold medals in 2017 and 2022 and brings experience in spades. Walker-Weinstein wants McCool to really show off her skills between the 30s.

Muchnick can score and she can defend. Both of those contributions will of course be welcomed, but Walker-Weinstein wants the Syracuse graduate to focus on being a grinder. “We need her creating opportunities for us by coming up with the ball on the ground,” she said.

The youngest player in U.S. Women’s National Team history, Osburn can flat-out fly. She’s strong defensively and can bury her shots, but Walker-Weinstein just wants her to show off those wheels. “Her big thing will be showcasing her speed from one end to the other,” she said.

Weeks does all the little things on a lacrosse field that coaches rave about. Like Muchnick, she’s a grinder who refuses to let someone beat her for a ground ball. Her speed and her edge make her a force. “She’s one of the biggest competitors out there for the less attractive plays,” Walker-Weinstein said.

Baker is a risk-taker on defense, and that’s what Walker-Weinstein loves so much about her. It helps to play that style when you’re as fast as Baker is. Some risks pay off in transition chances and ones that don’t aren’t an issue because she can recover so quickly. Like many others, she’ll be empowered to kickstart things on the run.

What Walker-Weinstein loves most about Forrest might just be her coachability. The 2025 IWLCA Defender of the Year is still improving and is a steady piece of the defense. She’s also fast and took on transition responsibilities while at North Carolina. She’ll do the same in Tokyo.

Walker-Weinstein adores Goodale’s competitiveness and how all-in she is. “She’s passion in human form,” she said. Goodale ended her Syracuse career as the program’s all-time leader in caused turnovers (102), and she loves to scrap with opposing attackers.

Scales is the backbone of the defense not just for her skills (which are immense), but also for her IQ. She can “autocorrect herself” in the middle of a play and can direct traffic when offenses are trying to break through.

Dolce is vocal and a big presence in the cage. She has big-game experience, both from her time at Boston College and with the U.S. U20 team that won gold in Hong Kong, China. Dolce’s an athletic goalie, and Walker-Weinstein wants to see her take even more risks in the clearing game.
