At least one top prospect in the high school boys’ lacrosse class of 2028 is off the board.
Lawrenceville (N.J.) and Long Island Express attackman Harrison Tyler, the No. 1 player in the National Lacrosse Federation’s rankings, announced on social media Tuesday that he has committed to Notre Dame. The recruiting window for current high school juniors opened Sept. 9.
A Dallas native, Tyler starred for the U.S. U17 Youth National Team last year. He also is ranked highly by Inside Lacrosse and Prep Lacrosse, coming in at No. 2 on those lists behind Tabor (Mass.) and 3d New England attackman Landen O’Neil, who has yet to commit to a college.
Tyler predominantly played midfield as sophomore for the Big Red during the high school season, scoring a hat trick in the Prep Nationals semifinals. The NLF bills him as “a smart and cerebral offensive player who can attack the defense in a number of ways.”
He’s right-handed, but all scored three of his goals left-handed in Lawrenceville’s 16-15 overtime loss against Brunswick (Conn.). “He's a righty but you could confidently be fooled he's a lefty,” Inside Lacrosse reports.
ACC schools are the early leaders in the recruiting race. Other five-star recruits who have announced their college commitments include Victor (N.Y.) faceoff specialist Eli Ricci (North Carolina), Culver (Ind.) attackman PJ Kennedy (Duke), Massapequa (N.Y.) long-stick midfielder Casey Gilchrist (Duke), Episcopal Dallas (Texas) attackman Wayte McKnight (Virginia) and Taft (Conn.) attackman Jake Gashi (North Carolina).
Not all the blue chips are going for Power Four prominence, however. The top goalie in the class, Weston Guerra of McDonogh (Md.), announced Tuesday that he has committed to Navy.
