Black, Holman Lead Maryland Charm to Inaugural WLL Title

World, meet Sydni Black.

A standout attacker at Loyola, Black put on a show on ESPN in the inaugural Women's Lacrosse League championship game, taking home MVP honors with four goals and one assist while leading the Maryland Charm to a 16-13 win over the California Palms in Philadelphia.

"We stand on the backs of giants," Black said to ESPN's Dana Boyle after the game. "We wouldn't be here without them."

Alex Holman, who didn't score during the regular season, produced a hat trick, and the goalie tandem of Caylee Waters and Jenika Cuocco combined to make 17 saves.

Maryland led 9-4 and appeared in comfortable position before halftime, but the Palms came back to knot the score at 9. The Charm scored the next three goals for a 12-9 lead and although the Palms kept the deficit too close for comfort, Maryland never looked back.
