The latest graduate transfer domino has fallen.
Less than one day after reports linked seven big-name graduate transfers to SMU for its debut season in 2028, maybe the biggest graduate transfer in the portal found a home.
Willem Firth, the Cornell attackman whose 2026 season earned him a Tewaaraton Award finalist nod, will finish his career with the Big Red this spring before transferring to Johns Hopkins for the 2028 season. Inside Lacrosse was first to report Firth's decision.
As a junior, Firth produced 52 goals and 29 assists to follow a 2025 season in which his 49 points helped Cornell win an NCAA championship.
There are obvious Cornell connections at Johns Hopkins, as head coach Peter Milliman served as the head coach in Ithaca from 2018-20 and assistant coach Chayse Ierlan played at Cornell from 2019-23 before using his final year of eligibility in 2024 to play at Homewood Field.
A pure finisher, Firth is a lefty who excels in the two-man game (as most Canadian attackmen do) and can shoot from mid-range. As maybe the top prize in the portal, Firth will keep Hopkins in the Big Ten conversation in 2028.
