Former U.S. team player Regy Thorpe led the United States to the bronze medal at the 2019 World Indoor Lacrosse Championship and followed that up with a breakthrough silver medal at the 2024 World Lacrosse championship.

A big figure in both men's and women's lacrosse, Thorpe is currently the head women's lacrosse coach at Syracuse after serving as an assistant at Florida, helping the Gators reach the final four in 2024. Before heading to Florida, he helped the University of Pittsburgh program get started.

Thorpe spent 10 seasons as the associate head coach of his alma mater Syracuse with the women’s lacrosse team before becoming the head coach and general manager of the New York Riptide in the National Lacrosse League.

While with the Orange as an assistant, Thorpe coached and mentored 21 IWLCA All-Americans, six IWLCA Players of the Year and six Tewaaraton Trophy Finalists. He saw Syracuse make 10 NCAA Tournament appearances, including six Final Fours and two championship finals.

Thorpe spent a year as the head coach of the Long Island Sound of the United Women’s Lacrosse League and led them to an undefeated season and championship in 2017.
 
In addition to his extensive coaching path, Thorpe also enjoyed a successful playing career. He got his start at Herkimer County Community College where he was a JUCO Defensive Player of the Year and All-American in 1991. He then finished his collegiate career at Syracuse where helped the Orange to a runner-up finish in 1992 and NCAA title in 1993. Thorpe also garnered All-America honors while at Syracuse. 

He was a member of the U.S. National Indoor Lacrosse Team, and played professionally for the Rochester Rattlers (2001-2006) and Rochester Knighthawks. The Rattlers reached the Major League Lacrosse Final Four in 2001, 2004 and 2005, while the Knighthawks (1995-2010) made 13 consecutive playoff appearances and were crowned World Champions in 1997 and 2007.
 
Thorpe is an inductee of numerous Hall of Fames including: Jordan Elbridge Hall of Fame, US Lacrosse Rochester Chapter Hall of Fame, NJCAA Lacrosse Hall of Fame, and Rochester Knighthawks National Lacrosse League Hall of Fame.

Roy Colsey, a National Lacrosse Hall of Fame inductee, is one of the top Americans to ever play box lacrosse. The former Syracuse star won three Major League Lacrosse championships in field lacrosse and played nine years in the National Lacrosse League, scoring more than 600 points in his pro box career. Colsey, the head boys’ lacrosse coach at Ridgefield (Conn.) High School, played for the U.S. men’s U19 team in 1992, the U.S. men’s senior team in 2006 and was on the U.S. team that upset Canada in box lacrosse in the 2002 Heritage Cup.

Brian Hobart will be involved with the U.S. men’s box program for the third consecutive time. He was a scout in 2015 and the assistant manager for the 2019 team. A former assistant coach with the MLL’s Rochester Rattlers, Hobart has also served as a scout for the NLL’s Rochester Knighthawks. The head boys’ lacrosse coach at Penn Yan (N.Y.) Academy, Hobart was the head coach for the Elmira Renegades in the Professional Box Lacrosse Association.

Joe Smith was a member of the U.S. box teams in 2011 and 2015 and enjoyed a successful pro lacrosse career after helping Towson reach the NCAA semifinals in 2001. Smith played for the MLL’s Rochester Rattlers for nearly a decade and won a league title in 2008. He also won NLL championships with both Rochester and Buffalo. A volunteer assistant on the 2019 U.S. staff, Smith has coached at the high school, collegiate and professional levels.
