Shawn Lyght
The Eraser
Shawn Lyght has steadily become one of the top lockdown defenders in the sport, as evidenced by his selection as the Tewaaraton winner in 2026. Still in college, he is already emerging as a force to be reckoned with in the national team program as well.
Coming from a family of multiple Division I scholarship athletes, including his uncle — former NFL star Todd Lyght — Lyght has used his own multi-sport background to become one of the best defensemen Notre Dame head coach Kevin Corrigan has ever seen. Lyght started as a freshman for Notre Dame's 2024 national championship team and has been given the assignment of opponent's No. 1 threats ever since.
He was a leader on the 2025 U.S. U20 team and was one of just two current collegiate players invited by U.S. senior team coach Seth Tierney for his first camp. Expect to see Lyght in red, white and blue for years to come.
U.S. Team
- Co-captain for the 2025 U.S. Men's U20 team that captured a silver medal on Jeju Island, Korea
- Had five groundballs while anchoring a defense that allowed just 21 goals in six games (3.5 per game)
- Selected to represent U.S. on the senior team level at the 2026 Pan-American Men's Championship in Kingston, Jamaica
- Made senior team debut at fall camp in 2025
College
- Won Tewaaraton Award in 2026 after leading Notre Dame to the NCAA championship game
- Became the first male defensive player to win the Tewaaraton Award
- USILA Schmeisser Award as nation's top defender (2025, 2026)
- Three-time USILA All-American (first team in 2025 and 2026, second team in 2024)
