In conjunction with this year’s National Celebrate Lacrosse Week, USA Lacrosse is proudly recognizing volunteers from across the country who are helping to grow the game on the grass roots level. Each day, we will profile someone who makes a positive difference in their community. Join us as we celebrate local lacrosse heroes from coast-to-coast!

Name: David Drehoff
Local Lacrosse Organization: Lake Nona Youth Sports
Location: Orlando, Florida
How This Person Impacts the Local Growth of the Game:
The local Heroes lacrosse program, one of many sports within the larger Lake Nona Youth Sports organization, needed someone to push the growth in youth boys participation, and Derhoff (with an assist from his own dad) tackled that challenge by bringing the boys’ division back to life. In addition to serving as one of the program’s coaches, Drehoff has taken on the additional duties of serving as a program leader.
Community Involvement:
Drehoff has become a visible leader for the Heroes, committing significant time to being in the community and making sure that lacrosse is promoted and recognized. He spends considerable time recruiting parent volunteers to help with the not-for-profit program and is credited with bringing local lacrosse families together to continue learning the game through their involvement with the Heroes. His goal is to help deliver a memorable experience for young athletes while preparing them for more competitive play at a higher level.
Most Significant Contributions to Lacrosse:
One of Drehoff’s primary assets is his knowledge of the game, which contributes significantly to the local Heroes program. His background as a former collegiate club All-American at Central Florida allows him to share his love of the game with the younger generation and help the sport to continue growing in the Orlando area. In addition, his desire for his own family to play lacrosse and to give back -- his father played at Navy -- has made a strong impact to others.
